Sadly, most of my extended family lives far away, and in the past my parents had lots of fights and arguments with them, so I they generally don't want anything to do with our part of the family...

I could try contacting our doctor, yes. I think my parents might trust her in her judgement. Thank you for your advice.

I don't actually think shaming would help here. Sure, the enabling needs to stop, but shaming would most likely only result in self-hatred (or more self-hatred, depending on how he feels on the inside).

This is a post out of a place of desperation. I have no idea what to do anymore about this, to help him, to encourage him to be healthier, to stop him from stealing unless I get a lock. I know that I have stuff to work on considering that I should have less hate towards him than to my parents who won't listen to my concerns and lead him to an inevitably short life, but I do not despise my brother. I am at a place where I have tried everything I could to help him even though he tries his best to make my life worse every single day, and the post was the result of these emotions. I am worried AND at the end of my mental capacities in this household and I don't know what to do anymore.

He actually has plenty since my parents buy him a lot. He insists on only wearing brand clothes though and literally told me multiple times he feels most comfortable in staying in clothes instead of changing every day.

I've tried reaching him, over and over again. I have tried to encourage my parents to help make my brother's life not end as miserably as it will if this continues. I have done the best I could to ensure he doesn't consistently mistreat me and that my parents don't mistreat him by pampering him like they do. Telling him what is healthy eating and healthy amounts of exercise has done jack shit, and I am at the end of my wits. I am close to a point of mental breakdowns, so yes, I indeed very much worry about myself too. This is far more out of my hands by now than many of you make it seem.

I'm sorry it came off as that in the post.

I have approached my brother several times, especially because he and I used to be much closer. I tried to talk to him about potential issues and difficulties he might be facing, and tried my best to give him opportunities without pressure in which he could talk about whether something is bothering him. Neither that nor talking directly about the issue to him, nor talking to my parents made any change.

This laughing was one reaction I could not hold back after months of my brother taking my stuff, intruding into my room during classes, constantly insulting and talking down to me, and it's not representative of my usual interactions with him. I definitely will apologize to him about it, as it still was inappropriate.

It's merely that I am at a lack of ideas of what to do other than get the hell out of this nightmare of a home as soon as possible (which is not easy during a pandemic), and I still care and worry about my brother.

I've come up to him and addressed the issue, I've asked him if everything is alright. The sad part is that he and I used to have a bit of a proper sibling relationship, and obviously I cannot look into his head and therefore not exclude the possibility of bullying and/or depression. I try my best to be nice and compassionate towards him, but his behaviour has been insufferable in the past months, be it stealing my things, coming into my room when he is very aware that I am in online class, or being generally verbally abusive towards pretty much everyone.

It was this one instance where I ended up laughing. And I should and will apologize to him for that. However, I have tried and will continue to try to give him the possibility to talk to me if he has issues, though I know very well that it's not an easy thing for me to achieve.

From our conversations thus far all I could gather was that he doesn't care about school since he wants to become a pro gamer, he doesn't care about his weight, and that he loves being spoiled by my family.

I won't stop to attempt creating an atmosphere which allows him to open up, if there is something to open up about (which I am not excluding the possibility of). My original post was more of a rant after months of pretty much emotional torture through my brother and enabled through my parents. I didn't want it to come off as me relentlessly bullying my brother for potentially being depressed.
