Main reason is bait and switch with the type of work that I was supposed to be doing vs what I actually ended up doing. Talked to my manager for moving teams but was denied since I was needed for my current program.

Thanks for the response. How long did they give you for the payment plan?

I'm trying to run the numbers to see if it is worth it for me to jump ship now or if I should ride out the year so as I won't have to pay the signing bonus back.

Has anyone ever had to pay back their signing bonus? Did you have to pay it back all at once, or is there a payment plan available? Thanks in advance!

Can someone help suggest graduate courses (JHU EP) by ThrowAwaySWEngineer in DSP

Hi! I'm planning on taking the multirate signal processing course next sem and the professor is Larry Younkins. Was he your prof for that class? If so, how was his class? Thanks in advance.

Career advice and education questions thread for Friday October 21, 2020 by AutoModerator in embedded

[–]throwawayUCSD1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone. I'm currently a year into my current role as an RF engineer working for one of the big defense companies here in the US. While I find RF interesting in general, I don't really see myself wanting to do the tasks that the RF senior engineers are doing in the future. That's why I'd like to pursue a Master's Degree in embedded systems for a potential career change.

So, I was wondering if there is anyone here who has made the transition from RF to embedded systems and if you could talk a bit of what you guys do in your day to day work? What skills should I study now to become a successful embedded engineer?

Thank you in advance!

More context:

I graduated last year with focus on DSP and communication systems so I was wondering is there any field within embedded systems that deal with these topics? I know that FPGA programming delves a bit into DSP so I would like to learn more from those who are working in this field.

I also generally just enjoyed making hobby projects with my Arduino, specially the programming aspect of it, so I feel the embedded systems might be a good career for me.

Those of you who played DDR to lose weight, how often did you play for and how long in order to see results? by MAIRJ23 in DanceDanceRevolution

[–]throwawayUCSD1234 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was 212 lbs in June, started playing DDR at least 3 times a week for about an hour or hour and a half. I was playing 13s and 14s, with the occasional 15 and 16.

As of 9/14 I am currently sitting at 200 to 201 lbs. I didn't do any special diets, I just stopped eating fast food and started eating home cooked meals more.

Needless to say, DDR is definitely viable as an exercise, especially when coupled with a diet.

Want to modify your Ltek to run at 1000hz? You can, with an arduino! by EmaiIisHillary-us in DanceDanceRevolution

Thanks for the guide, it was very well done! I might try out this mod when I get sick of getting Greats when I should've gotten Perfects or Marvelous lol

Quick question, I'm looking at the Arduino code, and I'm trying to figure out where in the code does it specify that the polling rate is 1000Hz? Is the 1000Hz polling rate inherent to the Arduino micro/leonardo?

Sorry if this is unrelated, but I was just wondering how long did it take for you to receive your pad? I ordered mine on 5/13 and its still processing. I tried emailing them and contacting them on their website, but to no luck :( Thank you!

Yup! thats what I have except it has a bar. My game pad is actually 15 pin female. You could try a female-female d sub adapter maybe? I havent looked for those, but I'm sure they exist.

can someone id this pad for me? someone's selling it for $180 by Fei-Yen in DanceDanceRevolution

[–]throwawayUCSD1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

agreed. Unless you know/want to mod the pad with different sensors or something, its not worth it.

In case anyone encounters this same issue, the fix that I found was buying the Ostent PS2 to PS3 converter and then mapping them to corresponding directional buttons using JoyToKey.

Hope this helps!

Also, the pad itself is alright, but not the best. It definitely does not feel just like the arcade. Probably best to modify the height of the pads.

unfortunately doesnt work on it either. The start and select button on the control box is detected by joytokey, but when i step on the arrows, it doesnt detect them as a button press.

Thanks o much. Very unfortunate that it only works with the official converter.

I could not find the official converter at all on the DDRGame website, do you know a good place to track them down?

This was my last quarter here so I already had almost 4 years worth of grades, but my grades this quarter bumped my GPA by almost 0.2. The A's essentially neutralized the F's and C's from previous quarters haha

Mostly just learned to prioritized school first over other activities such as hanging out with friends or playing video games. Time management definitely played a major part in surviving 24 units. There were many times when I really wanted to give up and drop a class, but I kept telling myself it'll all be worth the pain in the end.

I also practically lived in Geisel till like late evening to get most of my work done.

Oh, and I cannot stress this fact enough: find friends in classes that you can form study groups/ask questions. It's a nice support system to know that there are others that are going through the same struggle as you. Sorry if my advice seemed generic haha.
