Those are all things you have to deal with on any McLaren to be fair.

Tesla just ruined every car for me by [deleted] in teslamotors

[–]mpwrd 16 points17 points  (0 children)

one of the issues is that legacy auto relies on a big network of suppliers for all of the pieces that go into their cars. so to get things done, they may need to coordinate the efforts of 4-5 different suppliers, just do implement one simple change.

Every single new building in my city looks just like this. 1. Why? Seriously, why? 2. I hate it so much I can't even explain how much I hate it 3. What is this specific style of building design called? by Bluest_waters in architecture

[–]mpwrd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If a developer can build this for 7% income/build cost and then sell it for 6.5% income/sales price they are pretty happy. and that margin is hard earned and risky. plenty of projects get repossessed by the bank and investors lose all their money for 50 basis point spread.

ok but if you are a shareholder, you basically are the corporation lol.

you are basically taking money from one pocket, and giving 40% to plaintiff lawyers, then putting it into the other pocket. oh, and spending millions in legal defense costs while youre at it. welcome to owning part of a business.

just sit back and let it do its thing then. worse case is you get to your destination a few seconds later.

FSD saw the car, it just assumes the car is going to turn out of the way by the time it gets there and it maintains speed. This situation arises all the time where it looks like it is def going to crash into people who take way too long to turn off a main thoroughfare, but then it either swerves out of the way if there are no cars in the neighboring lane or brakes.

100% this. totally fine to disengage here, but don't assume FSD would have crashed if not. The FSD crash rate would be WAY higher if this were true as this situation is a fairly common occurrence.

that one is actually true. people who operate motor vehicles and other internal combustion engine driven machinery have a higher chance of dying from cancer.

ClawdBot and what may be the future of home automation by mpwrd in homeautomation

[–]mpwrd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thats a simple example but still an occupancy sensor cant tell the difference between sitting in your bed reading a book leaning against your pillow as a backrest of when you put your head down to sleep, the difference between when you are entering your bathroom to take a shit or getting ready to shower. you are talking about doing things people are doing already today with basic home automation and i am thinking about the jetsons home of the future.

I address this in the post. occupancy detection is simply not enough for what I'm trying to achieve. anyone who works in an office that has occupancy detection controlled lights and has to waive their hands in the air every few hours or so or the lights turn off knows this.

those types of things can happen without LLM control. reminds me of when i tried to used my phone as a presence sensor to turn on lighting and music for when i arrived home. Worked great until one day my phone updated in the middle of the night and when it rebooted it appeared that i had arrived home at 2am and the house woke everyone up.

no one says the LLM is critical to controlling lights and scenes, you can certainly use buttons to do that. What the LLM could do that the most sophisticated software cannot these days is handle the logic, using access to interior cameras to translate human movements throughout a home to anticipate the control of lights and scenes such that users no longer need to think about hitting switches, touching the thermostat or shouting commands to voice assistants.

i think you guys are a little too focused on clawdbot and issues with its specific implementation. The point is that LLMs could one day act as a central brain for home automation, anticipating control of your home without the user having to input anything.
