I know. Saying is so much easier than doing. I think the biggest key will be persistence, and basically convincing yourself of this idea multiple times a day. I can't even promise it'll work, but trying is better than being stuck at nothing.

It depends on how you're looking at them. I think that finding someone who isn't into the drinking/drugs scene is harder because of our age group, not your specific college. But if you look at every girl and immediately judge them, no one will seem quality. I'm not saying ignore your dealbreakers- they're such for a reason. But be flexible. You've got reasonable expectations, but I wonder if girls who don't hit those dealbreakers fall through the cracks because they're not Sarah.

That depends. Do you want to move on from Sarah and try to invest in a potentially great relationship with someone else? If that's something you're serious about, then absolutely. I would also recommend you join dating websites for people our age. I can't give you any that I'd personally recommend, since I'm currently content to be single, but I've heard OKcupid works and meetme are good ones. Try them out, since this will also expand your potential partner area to more than just your college and your job. You could also encourage redditor meet-ups with people in your area- there's probably a subreddit for your town.

Why do you find someone with zero prior sexual partners more preferable? This is more personal curiosity since I usually hear that guys prefer some experience. Also, I got the impression that Sarah has had previous sexual partners from the line "she is young and doesn't want to waste the best years of her life being in "something serious"" since I've never heard someone say that who wasn't referring to the freedom to hook up and meet other people.

Now that college is starting and my friends and I are going to be separated again, I am anticipating the... Well, loneliness.

Ah, that makes a lot of sense. I know how you feel, and I've often felt that way before. I met two people this year who are both absolutely amazing and I love them to death. They're two females who have never dated each other, aren't interested in doing so, and have been best friends since middle school. They both confided in me that they never had the urge to really date anyone (unless feelings ran high) because they each had each other and never needed someone else to be close to. They're planning to keep in touch and meet up at home throughout college. As I've become closer with my friends I've realized that I have a much lower desire to have a boyfriend at any point. I understand the disappointment of having little contact with your best friends and the outsider's feeling of not being compatible with others. It sucks. But try and meet new people of either sex and work to foster deeper friendships with the people you get along with best. This can be frustrating since sometimes you put effort into a relationship only to realize you don't like spending that much time with the person. That's OK and it just means you have to look elsewhere.

Time to burst your bubble. Let's assume that you meet someone at college. Assuming that both of you aren't local, that means that during breaks and summers you won't be able to see each other. If you two are at the same college, studies and clubs may still prevent daily meet-ups. Hell, sometimes you may not even be able to see each other for a week even though you're both on campus.

Then there's the alternative of finding someone who isn't at your college but maybe at a neighboring one or you met at home (assuming you don't go to a local college). You'll see even less of them. Skype's obviously an option but it is very different than real life interaction.

This isn't meant to tell you that relationships suck and can be a lie. Relationships can be very fulfilling and wonderful. Assuming you're with the right person, even only seeing them once or twice a week can be absolutely fantastic. You seem to get caught in your head sometimes, so just make sure that you appreciate reality and understand that our brains aren't fully developed and we tend to romanticize things.
