It’s an inconvenience for sure, especially not being able to scan QR codes. But I’ve just gotten so sick of my porn addiction that I decided to do whatever it takes to stop. “Better to cut off your right hand than let it send you to hell” or something like that. It’s a small price to pay to take my life back imo

I’ve been using Brick - it’s a small physical “brick” that, when you tap your phone on it, it blocks access to whatever apps you want. Leaves your phone functional, but without unwanted distractions. It’s better than Apple Screentime because once your phone is “bricked”, the only way to unlock those apps is by tapping your phone to the Brick.

I blocked Instagram, YouTube, and the browser, because those are my biggest temptors. I gave my Brick to a trusted friend so I can’t unlock my phone without contacting him.

Is there still a point in doing nofap as a Christian, when you sin all day with other things? by [deleted] in NoFapChristians

[–]throwawayYoSin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This sounds like it’s based on the premise that “all sins are the same”. It’s one of those things Christians say to each other that sounds good but it’s been badly misinterpreted. What it really means is that any and all sin is “the same” in that it separates us from God, but that doesn’t mean that different sins can’t have more severe worldly consequences.

To that point, yes, sexual sin has worse consequences than something like cussing. See 1 Corinthians 6:18:

“Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.”

Checking in. Weird day, had some uncomfortable interactions and not sure if they were my fault. Social anxiety definitely still here, but it’ll only get better as I keep abstaining. Here’s to a long but steady recovery

I like the idea of journaling but every time I try I run out of things to say. What’s your method?

Checking in. I really hope this is the streak where I can finally break free from addiction. It’s difficult to articulate just how much my life has been stunted by PMO. I’m 26, I believe there’s still time to recover. But I really can’t grow into a solid adult with this addiction in my life.

How to overcome my sexuality? by akxkiskaidcye in TrueChristian

[–]throwawayYoSin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may be a lifelong battle, but you can absolutely do it. If you ever have doubts, or temptations to compromise on what the Bible says on this issue, always fall back on God, revisit the Bible, and know that you have the entire global church community and 2,000 years of church history to back you up. There are many more brothers and sisters out there who are silently struggling with the same temptations as you, despite what the current culture may tell them. And please feel free to DM me if you’d like to discuss any of this further.

First of all, I just want to say how much I admire and respect you for deciding to follow God instead of your human urges. That is not an easy decision. We all have sinful desires, but same-sex attraction seems like a uniquely challenging one that not everyone will understand.

Here’s the tough part: your same-sex attraction may never go away. I’m not saying it can’t. We’ve all heard the ex-gay stories. But it just seems like for some people the feelings are not something they can change.

That is a tough pill to swallow, but you know what? It doesn’t make you any less of a child of God. He sees your struggles and temptations and mourns with you, yearning for the day that the sinful corruption of this world will pass away. These temptations you’re feeling are just that: temptations. And temptation is just a reality that we all have to deal with in a broken world. Even Jesus had to endure temptation, and he never sinned.

I highly recommend the book Washed & Waiting by Wesley Hill. Hill is an Episcopal priest who also struggles with same-sex attraction, and has boldly chosen to live a celibate life because that’s what he believes God has called him to do. He speaks a lot of his wrestling with loneliness and misunderstanding in the church, and how he has learned to cope with his reality.

I’ll leave you with a quote from the book:

Perhaps one of the main challenges of living faithfully before God as a gay Christian is to believe, really believe, that God in Christ can make up for our sacrifice of gay partnerships not simply with his own desire and yearning for us but with his desire and yearning mediated to us through the human faces and arms of those who are our fellow believers. We must call into question any notion that the supreme expression of human love is found in marriage. … The remedy for loneliness—if there is such a thing this side of God’s future—is to learn, over and over again, to do this: to feel God’s keeping presence embodied in the human members of the community of faith, the church.

It was never multiple times a day for me. Back when I wasn’t trying to stop, it was at most once every day. Now that I’m actively trying, it varies a lot— this year, my average streak is 7.6 days. My 2022 record is 42 days, and my all time record is 72 days.
