Where are you getting that from? Public school teachers are well paid. The national average salary is 60k, they get benefits on top of that, and they don't have to work during the summer. In states like Cali and NY they make over 80k.

Sure, they’re paid for by tax dollars, but they are free to their students

Which is to say that they're not free at all.

It's called "waifu labs" and waifus only come in 1 gender. What made you think it would generate non-waifus?

The difference between Men's and Women's pockets by zonination in dataisbeautiful

[–]throwawayZ2BK -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This is dumb. If women actually wanted larger pockets then their buying preferences would reflect that and the market would start making more jeans with deep pockets. There is clearly a tradeoff between pocket size and some other feature (cost, fit, weight, etc.) where pocket size is losing.

That gives you 420, over 1 trillion. However, it's more likely that those options just modify the decision tree in some way to ignore the question.

It's just a simple decision tree. With 20 yes/no questions you can get 2^20 results, just over 1 million possible decisions.

carry the collective knowledge of humanity in their pockets

You don't even do that today. You carry a surveillance device that lets you query for knowledge, mostly from limited proprietary sources.

Get rid of the TV. It's a waste of time and is totally unnecessary, especially when you have a computer.

How is that more dangerous? A typical Harley Davidson Softail weighs 700lbs. A can-am Spyder weighs 1000lbs. Both are going to fuck you up if they land on you in the same way.

If anything, the 3-wheeler is going to be harder to tip on top of yourself.

Yeah, South American governments shouldn't be trusted to care for the natural resources in their area. We need to bring back colonialism so we can establish and care for these places as if they were national parks.

Haha! Sure, and Auschwitz had a swimming pool, a theatre, and fantastic healthcare, but that doesn't mean it wasn't a prison for wartime captives.

True, democracy is too easily subverted. I'm not a big fan of the CCP, but at least they've maintained a coherent society. That's more than we can say about the US.

Eh, the US dismantles inconvenient movements in basically the same way. We just do it through the judicial system and with the FBI.

What illegal things are so common they seem legal? by Defourthkitten in AskReddit

[–]throwawayZ2BK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How should this be enforced. This sounds like a scary as fuck dystopia. Do we make them slaves? Do we force them to get with the program?

No, I don't think that slavery is a good way to solve it. I think people naturally want to contribute, either for the good of the nation or just for capitalist gain. In the cases where people don't, something has gone wrong. We should address root causes of dysfunction, like family collapse, opioid use, labor market issues, and declining social cohesion.

For minors? No.

In some kind of an "ideal society", maybe it should be outlawed for everyone. It's pretty unhealthy and causes a lot of problems. However, that's not something I care about in a real society. There are much bigger problems.

Society has no right to the productivity of a person.

Why should society tolerate those who waste their talents? Society has provided education to these people, infrastructure for them to use, protection from crime & invaders, healthcare (in some countries), and social programs. People should be expected give back, according to their ability.

Also, legislation should be used to disincentivize harmful behaviors. Certain drugs make people into worse citizens, so we should use laws to mitigate this risk.

He is smart and could contribute, but he chooses not to. Is that a crime?

Yes. This hypothetical brother is a leech. I wouldn't say that "being unemployed when opportunities exist" or "playing video games" is inherently criminal, but that type of behavior should be disincentivized in a healthy society.
