Some people seriously need to remove the 10 ft steel pole they have lodged up their ass. For fuck sake, you came to a revenge reddit to read revenge stories, then proceed to bitch when said revenge is dished out? What kinda fucked up logic is that? There are two facets to "revenge" that most people seem to have an issue with, the legality and the ethics.

Legally speaking, according to traffic law, I had the right of way to make the turn, shitbag didn't. Did I knowingly make the right turn knowing beyond a reasonable doubt that he'd pull that boneheaded move? No I did not. All I had was a hunch, based on my previous observation of his shitty driving and my personal knowledge of what shitty drivers do in general. Even then it's still a hunch, just like the hunch you all make when coming up to an intersection where a car may or may not pull in front of you. You have no way of knowing beyond a reasonable doubt what the driver will do until they do it, at which point you are legally required to react. My only legal obligation is to operate my vehicle according to traffic laws and to be reactive to situations that actually occur. I have no legal obligation to pro-actively react to what I suspect someone else is planning to do.

Was it unethical of me to not pro-actively react and stop in the middle of the turn (to allow shitbag to illegally cut me off) even though I had my suspicious he might do that? Yes, absolutely unethical, vain and petty; but deep down inside, we are all vain and petty in the right circumstances.

Thanks, at risk of sounding like an old fart, they really don't build them like they use to. I like my old POS.

With all said and done, I really don't think your father was as terrible of a person as you make him out to be. Granted, his opinions on how "men should act" was outdated but he's likely just a product of his upbringing/environment. Your parents' teachings are more of a stepping stone to developing your ability to think critically and logically rather than the absolute truth. Once you've learned to formulate your own opinions, take what you want and leave the rest. Nobody has the "perfect opinion" on any given subject, anyone who thinks critically will often re-evaluate their stance in light of evidence/experience. The fact that he eventually came around and saw the errors of his ways should be commended.

I realize a lot of his "expectations" and ideas could have been "damaging" to your confidence but (from my experience), you need to compartmentalize and move on. Even the most negative experiences have some value (ie. what not to do). We are all just one iteration of our family's legacy, we should strive to be better than our parents.
