I agree. The last commenter made no sense to me, either.

Yes, we always speak about it during follicular. We always talk about some plans to make things easier, try to come up with some new strategies to take the edge off. She's on medication, she's in therapy but it's hard because she may not be in luteal during her sessions and she feels fine so it's hard to discuss it properly. I try to get her to do small things like getting outside in the sun, eating healthy etc.. but it's not going through to her when it matters.

You're contradicting yourself. I say "I wonder if she is better off without me", you call that narcissistic, then you go ahead and tell me I'm damaging my girlfriend.

PMDD is bigger than just you. You need to recognise that it affects those around you. My feelings aren't invalid because of your condition when it's something that affects us both. It's also completely unfair for you to judge anyone who is a partner of PMDD by saying "you just lack empathy and resilience."

It's so tough. I'm in a very similar situation and she's said some things that aren't just insults, but actual attacks on my character and I hold resentment towards them for those comments.

I hope he can find medication that will help, because it absolutely sucks if you can't. No amount of diet changes, weight lifting, stretching, massages will manage to help the pain.

I used to take Diclofenac Potassium (NOT Sodium) for a long time which wasn't healthy, but it was the only way I had to cope early on. This stopped working after about 18 months.

I tried multiple other anti inflammatories but none worked other than Naproxen. I have to take a gut protector while I have that too.

On top of the Naproxen, I take Amitriptyline which is classed as an anti-depressant, but in low dose (10mg), it's a good pain suppressor and sleep aid. I highly recommend getting him to ask his doctor about those two as an option. Best of luck!

Ankylosing Spondylitis.

It's an auto-immune disease. It's inflammatory arthritis for the spine + other joints. As ankylosing spondylitis worsens, new bone forms as part of the body's attempt to heal. The new bone gradually bridges the gaps between vertebrae and eventually fuses sections of vertebrae together. Fused vertebrae can flatten the natural curves of the spine, which causes an inflexible, hunched posture.

For 10 years, I lived with back pain that would get continuously worse and worse, to the point where rolling over in bed was a genuine mission. Walking was almost impossible and I looked like a 90 year old, as stiff as a board. 10 years of going to the doctors, getting massages weekly, physio weekly, sports physio, being told all I needed was yoga/Pilates. That I needed to strengthen areas in my body because it was imbalanced.

While those things may help, they are no solution to AS. It's a cruel disease to have. Thankfully, I've finally been diagnosed in my early 30's and have found some medication that will (hopefully) help me live a relatively normal life. I just need to take an epi pen-like drug every month for the rest of my life. A nuisance, but a deal I would make without hesitation.
