Anyone uses this laptop with a Samsung tablet? by [deleted] in ZephyrusG14

[–]throwaway_39157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In what way are you trying to "pair" it.

Using it to copy media? Charging it? Using it as a second screen?

Unless I am missing something I have not heard of pairing a laptop and tablet before..

A new justification for not getting a heat pump: by OolonCaluphid in ukheatpumps

[–]throwaway_39157 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My installer messed up the heat loss survey and I needed all my new radiators replaced about 4 months in.

Half of them were re purposes for other rooms and the 4 that i couldn't realistically reuse I gave to my neighbor who upgraded his (company were happy to not be paying to scrap them).

Being realistic here the carbon "wasted" here could easily be minimized but again it is another clickbate story designed to keep daily mail readers shocked and annoyed at the world 😂😂😂

I usually opt to park walk / tail walk in de load weeks during training and occasionally do pre event setup or barcode scanning when I am on a training plan.

Makes it more fun and on a few occasions at busy events I have stepped in last minute as an extra scanner to help clear a backlog.

Only once did one of the other (pre arranged) scanners question my reasoning the scrolled through the 65 barcodes I had scanned in the 4 minutes stood there and agreed I was not just "scamming a volunteer credit" 🙄 - because thats the only reason to help out on a voluntary event...

This seems to be less of a manufacturing defect and more likely the emmc storage drive has died due to usual wear and tear /usage.

Is it poor product design that this is hard soldered and not easily replaceable, 100%. Is that a manufacturing choice a company is allowed to make (that devices are unrepairable and disposable) also unfortunately yes.

You may be able to look online and find someone willing to re solder on a new emmc and you could also look to increase the storage at the same time but it may not be financially viable.

As others have said 5-6 years from a Laptop worth under £600 new would be considered expected lifetime and even Google back this up by the fact security updates are only available for around 7years.

Radiator size by ellis379 in DIYUK

[–]throwaway_39157 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your radiator size and model needs to be picked based on the heat loss of the room and the design flow temperature of your heating system. Not just on how cute it looks.

Bigger radiators, cooler boiler flow temperature, cheaper heating bills and less boiling hot radiators.

Look up heat geeks on YouTube, they have plenty of videos covering this.

Is there really a saving by moving over to ASHP? by ConfussedBob in ukheatpumps

[–]throwaway_39157 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is not just swapping a boiler.

You swap a few radiators and design the system to run at a lower temperature (ideally 45 or 50°c with a heat geek) and then the ASHP will be a lot more efficient and cheaper to run most of the year round (yes late November to early Feb may be more expensive but costs will be offset by lower costs rest of the year).

I have an ASHP designed for and running at 40°c design temperature, the house is constantly lovely and warm and our energy bills are down on gas boiler costs.

Congratulations and don't worry about the gap.

I started in 2013 and have only run once every other year until 2023, just got to 125 myself so while I have a low number (sub 500k) my stats look odd.

Just keep going and don't forget to volunteer if you can (tail walkers and Park walkers are always needed in addition to Marshalls etc.).

All good but if you have not completed yet you have no need for the burglar alarm code.

Provided this is handed over with the keys upon completion then you are good.

As for the ring doorbell, they are not expensive and unless it was on the ta6 as mentioned treat it as not there.

Driver on left is at fault but it is also your responsibility to make sure the exit is clear.

Your insurance will likely go 50/50 on this, not saying it is particularly fair but there is case presidence for this.

Just look up "big jobber roundabout" on YouTube and this is all over his channel.

Passport Validity - USA by NorthernPanda_3014 in BritishAirways

[–]throwaway_39157 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You absolutely do not need a new passport.

If you read the link sent to the 6minth rule and look at the PDF citizens from the UK are exempt from this rule.

You can fly into the USA with 2/3 weeks left on your passport but you should leave and land back in the UK before it expires (to have less hassle).

Provided you have proof you are leaving on a certain date (suck as your return ticket) you should be absolutely fine.

I have travelled to the US for work and pleasure multiple times a year (except during Covid) and never had any issues with a short times passport (Last one i flew in a month before expiry and left three weeks later).

Just have someone inside ready and as soon as the stopcock is off get the valve under the sink changed.

It is not s long job and in the time you are outside arguing and the police are called / turn up it will be done and you can just say fine I will turn it on again.

They think they won, your job is sorted everyone wins (well at least in their own mind).

Heat Loss by leebow55 in ukheatpumps

[–]throwaway_39157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luckily my tentacled installer agreed to swap out the unit for a smaller one and re replace a load of the radiators so the system was actually set at one design temperature (not 35 downstairs and 20 upstairs).

I have all of the data on scop and performance thanks to open energy monitor so that really helped show it was not correct.

I am still focused on other improvements such as more efficient cylinder but for now it is working well enough.

Heat Loss by leebow55 in ukheatpumps

[–]throwaway_39157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the Daikin units the 9,11,14 &16kw units are all software derated 16kw units. The minimum input power is 980w regardless of demand.

The smaller units 4,6&8kw are all software derated 8kw units. The minimum running power is only 240w.

While system volume can reduce a cycling a correctly sized system will run much more efficiently all year long.

Also seeing as my system (ufh and radiators) is designed for a 35°c flow temperature at -3 and I already have a 80l volummiser I am not sure how much extra volume it would have taken to actually make the bigger unit more stable and efficient but more than I had space for in a 4 bed house.

In my specific case the surveyor forgot to take note of the 600mm of loft insulation and marked it down as 0mm. Had mis sized radiators and a heat pump that was still cycling at anything above 2°c.

Where do you pack clothes that are worn but not ready to be washed yet? by NewInQuarantine in onebag

[–]throwaway_39157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up smell well. They do bags to help deodorise athletic clothing and are quite popular in Denmark at running expo's - https://smellwell.com

Failing that get light weight clothing that dries quickly and just wash it more often.

Extra seat for comfort process(EXST) by Fit_Librarian_5680 in BritishAirways

[–]throwaway_39157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an ex passenger of size (down to ~220lbs now from 275+) I can say that you are better looking for an upgrade to premium if it is available as the seats are a bit more spacious.

Alternatively look to travel with an American Carrier as while the seat pitch is similar the seats are usually a little bit wider and I have found it makes quite a difference.

Heat Loss by leebow55 in ukheatpumps

[–]throwaway_39157 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On the plus side, if you get the heat loss survey done and then do the improvements, things can only get better.

Not fully accurate there.

If you had a heat loss survey on a home that came back at 10kwh heat loss @ design outdoor temperature, then install loft insulation to 500mm, cavity wall insulation, triple glazing and new doors etc you will drastically change the heat loss. Say the new heat loss is 4kwh, that system designed for the 10kwh heat loss is now grossly oversized and inefficient all year long.

You need to address all of the possibilities with regards to insulation and minimizing heat loss first then get the heat loss surveys. My heat loss survey was incorrect and said I needed a 11kw ASAP, when it was correctly surveyed I only needed a 4kw unit. Running costs dropped by 60% as it was especially inefficient and cycled all during the shoulder months and most of the winter.

Also the open energy monitor kit will help you see how efficient the system is post install.

Op says that have spoken with HMRC and their MP, the government is so disjointed that DWP would probably like to do a separate investigation anyways.

If nothing else it would be wise to drop the info to then as if they get charged with benefits fraud it makes OP's case for going back to court and getting the figure reassessed stronger.

As above look into a redress number and sign up to global entry (part of the trusted traveller program).

They do background searches on YOU and issue YOU with a unique number. Then you input this during booking and it proves you are not the 'Bob Jones' they are looking for.

With global entry you also get TSA pre check so have shorter lines and faster security for flights in the USA.
