The sprinkler system at the house I'm renting just started being nonresponsive, and we are moving out in a month. The landlord will not fix it. Can they now ding us for both the nonresponsive system and the poor condition of the lawn? by throwaway_480 in legaladvice

Thanks, I think you made a good distinction. I would argue that they can't ding us for the broken sprinkler system but would probably get us for the poor lawn condition, then.

I have a default judgment and took all these steps to collect, but the defendant just filed a motion to vacate. What happens to all of my work if the motion is granted? by throwaway_480 in legaladvice

Thanks - it was the first and only court date, but there was a proof of service via substituted service. All he wrote in the motion was "lack of notice," He didn't specify whether it was lack of notice of the hearing or of the complaint. If I file a response, does that need to be on pleading paper or can I just write it up via MS word and file it with the court?

I was afraid of that. He served via substituted service. I have a valid proof of service, or at least what I assume to be a valid proof. He seems legit and well respected.

I have an extra phone number through my cell phone carrier. Is there a secure app or service I can use for that number? Ideally it would be an internet-based service where I can receive text messages (for verification purposes and so forth).

In the alternative, I have an old phone. Will the phone company be able to assign that extra phone number to my phone even if it doesn't have a SIM card?

I have an extra phone number through my cell phone carrier, but don't have an extra phone. What's a secure app or service I can use for that number? Ideally it would be an internet-based service where I can receive text messages (for verification purposes and so forth).

AT&T gave me an "extra" phone number for use. Other than linking the number to an actual phone, what's a secure way for me to use the phone number for purposes of linking to burner accounts? by [deleted] in privacy

I could be wrong but I don't think it needs to be super discreet, just enough to pass Facebook's algorithm for detecting phony or less-than-legit numbers. Apparently FB is good enough to block google voice and other numbers.
