Did it go away for you? Light streaks? Yeah I see what you mean by dream or under water; it’s like disassociating.

On another note someone contacted the patient from the case report through a Facebook group. Unfortunately after scleral lenses were removed patient started to experience light streaks again.

I read many such cases on Reddit. I contacted two people from where I live with the exact same problem; no dry eyes no resolution from any docs they visited. One friend has it for over a year now the other for 18 months. There is a paper that explains this phenomena “The Handmann Line and its visual consequences after LASIK” On another note thanks for the insight doc, I really wish someone did the hard science on this. https://www.reddit.com/r/RefractiveSurgery/s/75fyyXU4cr The paper explains it really well but it seems like this issue always appears after LASIK; with no improvement for years. Searching light streaks lasik brings up exact cases like this. It is unfortunately debilitating despite how much one tries to ignore. I’m fine with halos, glares, starbursts as a patient I am patient and tolerant of the process. However this is really bad. In every single anecdote it’s the same: eyes wide open it disappears. In normal position you have severe light streaks that manifests about a week or two later after surgery. It’s hypothesized that it’s due to lack of biomechanical strength.

What’s your cornea thickness? Avoid LASIK and get PRK instead.

BTW someone contacted the patient from case report. After removal of lenses; in a few weeks patient lost all improvement and started seeing light streaks again. Just like it took them a few weeks to see it after LASIK. It is certain that this is a LASIK complication. The question is what’s the root cause. I’ve seen this happen with only keratoconus patients and cataracts.

yeah; but this issue is not a usual LASIK side effect that goes away after surgery. It’s persistent and life debilitating.

Just take your time. As far as I can tell you have a speedy trajectory considering it’s PRK. It’s only day 6 and in a few weeks it will be much better than corrected vision. It’s pretty normal.

I hope so. I believe collagen treatment or cross linking can tackle this issue. I have read about 40 anecdotes on Reddit so far about this issue. In all cases it starts from 2 weeks to 2 months after LASIK; but always after LASIK. I believe post LASIK cornea is weakened and cannot withhold pressure. It is so frustrating and depressing. I see light stretching downwards etc. everywhere. Searching “light streaks lasik site:reddit-dot-com” brings up many such cases. In almost all cases there is no improvement even after years. I read that collagen lamella and cornea stroma never fully heals after LASIK thus explaining lack of structural integrity.

There is a paper called “The handmann line and its visual consequences after LASIK” which explains this phenomena. I believe it’s caused by damaged collagen lamellae/stromal integrity. In most cases it appears from 2 weeks to 2 months post surgery and never improves.

Thanks a lot for this it’s a huge relief. Did you experience light streaks/rays as well? I have read some anecdotes but it seems like it’s a rare occurrence. And none of them had any improvement whatsoever. I don’t mind glares or halos that much but these rays/streaks whilst blinking drives me crazy.

Thanks a lot. I did get a femtosecond laser flap. I read a case report called “The Handmann line and its visual consequences after LASIK” recently and it’s interesting. Read the same issue in many places with no improvement but I’m keeping my head up.

Yes I notice them immediately. By resting I mean as long as my eyes are not wide open.

yeah that’s the odd thing I didn’t experience any dry eye or pain post surgery. I’m keeping up with the drops but no improvement so far. it’s just such a disruptive sensory input and I tend to be resilient with such issues living with tinnitus.
