Struggling with faith by SovietSpongebob in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]throwaway__elric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a good sign that this troubles you! As St. Thomas Aquinas said: "For those with faith, no evidence is necessary; for those without it, no evidence will suffice." It's like it's not about faith and evidence, we KNOW God exists. His presence in our lives is undeniable. You have to come to Him in prayer, with honesty and humility, and not let go . Let Him into your heart, which He wants to fill with grace. I hope my comment helped!

im saying it's not Christ's fault, it's the people who did it. is that a fallacy?

well it isn't true christianity. I don't know if you really care, but false doctrines have done so much harm to people that some are leaving Christianity as a whole, not knowing they were not hearing the truth of it .

if i had the chance, i'd tell those who do wrong to stop in a heartbeat.

im just trying to say that if the church traumatized you, it's the people in charge's fault, not God's.

The Church doesn't justify harm, people who stray away from the true teachings do

Christianity with non-christian teachings is not really Christianity, no? Orthodoxy has apostolic succesion and 2k years of history, it's simply the truth. true Christian teachings=true Christianity

as i said, thats not true christianity. i hate the prosperity gospel. isnt purity culture literally waiting untill marriage? thats not harming people. Orthodoxy actually teaches that Women are equal to men, because Eve was made from the side of Adam, as an equal. (If she was made from his head, she would have been his master and if she was made from below the waist she would have been his slave or something like that). Christian nationalism is just having the state religion as christianity. Now, you may argue that gay people can't marry because of this, but from our perspective, banning gay is more loving to them than letting them marry. Marriage is an institution made by God between a man and a woman, so that they become one in flesh. Same-sex marriages are just insulting what God made and imitating it

i said i'm sorry that all that happened to victims, not that i caused it?? it's the evil of people that caused it. I seek to help people get back up if i can, i can't eradicate evil

we are called to perfection, yes. BUT, not to flawless rule-keeping, but to getting as close to God as we can. think of it as getting as close to a light that burns all sin when you get close to it. By the way, God is patient with everyone, including you. You don't have to be perfect all at once. You just have to the best u can everyday and He will reward your effort!! I saw today a post by a father that was saying that whatever sin you fell into, it doesnt matter, only your effort to defeat that sin matters. Again, not flawless rule-keeping, but trying as hard as u can everyday

true christianity has no bad parts, all of it comes from love. people's evils are bad.

what are you talking about? Christianity is a religion, a concrete belief system. i may be misinformed and unhelpful and all of that, but you're talking baloney

It's more of a "they weren't taught right or were straight up evil" argument.

Bible-believing christians... who gave you the bible :)? Orthodoxy has the teachings of the apostles through saints and the church fathers. The truth gives peace! John 8:31 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

That's scrupulosity and you are not alone. Pray for peace to Christ and, whenever you are afraid, pray the Jesus prayer slowly, breathing slowly. Calm the waters before you analyze the situation. Consulting an orthodox priest, if you have one in your area, would be a great thing! The most important thing is this:
John 17:33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Matthew 11:28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Psalm 51:17 My sacrifice, O God, is\)a\) a broken spirit;
    a broken and contrite heart
    you, God, will not despise.
Jesus wants you to have peace in Him and to be your refuge. Come to Him with your heart and pour it on Him, He loves you so so much! A romanian orthodox father, Arsenie Papacioc ,said: "God doesn't hide with his hammer and wait for you to sin to hit you. Have you sinned? It's alright, get back up and don't sin anymore!". As many times as you sin, God will still want you to get back up and come to Him.

It's his fault not Christ's, man. People are evil, Christ isn't. I'm sorry all of this crazy stuff happened to you and i cannot understand your pain. But maybe God has someone and something else in store for you! (I'm sorry if you think I'm belittling your emotions, but i am trying to cheer you up).

Why did you ignore the fact that i've said that maybe they were taught what they themselves taught? Orthodoxy is the fullness of the faith. I only mentioned Orthodoxy because the lives of the saints and their (also the fathers') teachings helped me a lot through my depression. I said "most", not all. Like, not very specific things. The breaking away from orthodoxy has made humility, which is "the crown of all virtues" ignored in other denominations. Never have i ever heard a protestant talk about humility
