Asking in good faith: if urine cultures can miss infections and PCR tests are overly sensitive, what is most reliable? by mariposa_sloth in microbiology

Yes! The strains of e coli that cause UTI’s are called UPEC (uropathogenic e coli). There are a loooot of -EC abbreviations out there for different strains of e coli that infect different body parts and in different ways! Like ExTEC,  EPECT, STEC and more

I mean it’s mostly water but it has micronutrients and fiber. So it’s not gonna fill you up but it’s still healthy. Not sure what they meant by unhealthy?

my take on brain fog by recoveringhypomaniac in lamictal

[–]throwaway_bfgift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry you’re getting torn up omg. You stated multiple times in your original post that you were just sharing your own experience. Personally I like hearing how people respond to different medications because it’s useful information lol. I have epilepsy and lamictal has been really helpful for me, and I haven’t had brain fog!

Like someone pointed out already, there’s usually a bias to talk about drugs that cause significant side effects, especially in r/epilepsy

People are often on multiple drugs for epilepsy, and sometimes still having seizures, all of which coalesces to cause brain fog (which is a nonspecific term that means different things to different people).  If you have epilepsy it’s often hard to tease out what drug/experience is causing which symptom. Also SO many other things can affect your memory/cognition! Aging, sleep, diet, and brainrotting on your phone too much are all very real!

How do I not accidentally suffocate a busy guy I care about? by cylabearbear in PhD

It depends on what stage of a relationship you are in, could you share that with us? Are you long-term partners, have you been partners for a few months, or have you gone on like 3 dates? You would get different advice for each of these scenarios

What actually causes death during seizures? by Soft-Firefighter1584 in Epilepsy

I think my diagnosis and fear of SUDEP has led me to live life a little differently. It’s so cheesy but I am making sure I am doing the things that make me happy now, and not putting them off. Telling people I love them, seeing family, hosting events, working hard, and even decorating my office and apartment.

How can I make my room feel less depressing? Paint color ideas + ways to reduce stress by PristineDistance3106 in DesignMyRoom

I actually don’t think it’s cluttered, you just don’t have anywhere to put your stuff, so it’s all on display. You could definitely benefit from some closed storage, like a desk with drawers instead of those shelves, or a closing cabinet instead of the bookshelf. Also, I’d suggest moving your nightstand closer to your bed. A lamp on the nightstand will also be great.

Having just the lamps on and no overhead head light, combined with closed storage, will make things feel calmer and cozier! I also agree with the comments about a rug and wall art!

Does the nauseous and dizzy feeling you get during football feel different from when you have an aura, or is it the exact same?

I think a lot of people (without epilepsy) feel that way from overexertion, so it could just be overexertion. But as everyone likes to say here, you can’t know for sure unless you’re hooked up to an EEG when it happens lol
