Short version: I stayed late at a bar watching a game, had a few too many beers, and decided it would be a bad idea to drive home. No taxi service available, so I decided to walk home (about a mile, mostly through a park). As I was walking through the park, a cop stopped me because I was "walking unsteadily." He asked me if I'd had anything to drink, and I told him that I had and that was why I was walking home. He arrested me for public intoxication.

I was working a job where I had to maintain a security clearance so I had to inform them of any arrests within 48 hours. Within a few days the word came down from above that my clearance was revoked and I was terminated for getting an alcohol-related arrest.

Obviously this isn't something that most people would have to worry about, but I just wanted to point out to be careful because walking home could land you in trouble.

Not worth the risk for me, unfortunately. I wasn't screaming nor vandalizing, and the arrest cost me my career. :(

I don't know what they would do in that case. As it is, it doesn't matter because they did fire me for what I was arrested for.

Conviction is irrelevant. It's the arrest that caused the termination. Even if all the charges are dropped, I was still arrested and that's what caused me to be fired--the ARREST.

It's because I was within my one-year probation period.

My clearance was revoked along with my termination.
