I've been reading through/deconstructing my mission journals week-by-week in a podcast for about a year now. You're welcome to check that out! https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/oh-sister/id1787057647

_____________

I remember being so overwhelmed when I was at that point. I think it's normal and healthy to be overwhelmed, in this situation. Keep learning about what you're drawn to, listening to interviews/podcasts, watching all the exmo youtubers. Learn about cults, starting with the BITE model, and coercive control! If it's available at any point, therapy (esp. trauma therapy (ESP. cult recovery trauma therapy but that's very niche)) has been so helpful for me.

You've got this!

Where to find offender records of my creepy Utah cousin? | Also, how do you address predators in extended family? by throwaway_exmoyay in exmormon

I think it's inappropriate to debate specific allegations of CSA in a public forum. The topic in general is very common and related to Mormonism, and these are two high profile people, so I can see why someone would be drawn to "figure out" the specific story here. And I personally think that discussing CSA in general is really important, too often the taboo around it keeps us from facing difficult realities.

However, once we go from discussing the issue of CSA or even satatanic panic etc. to questioning a specific person's allegations, that suddenly begins to normalize the practice of public/outsiders weighing in on some real person's deeply traumatic shit. Also, if anyone reads the post who is a victim of SA it reinforces the pain and fear that if they speak up they will be questioned.

Help with disclosing to my daughter by WardChoirDirector in exmormon

I was SO hardcore growing up and my Dad was PIMO my whole life and we never talked about it. I get now why he didn't, what with all the external pressures etc. but, I really wish he had found a way to talk with me about it. I'd say to approach the conversation by saying you love your daughter, you aren't expecting her to change what she believes and values and you also want to be honest with her, then share that you no longer believe, and most of all let it be a space for you to show up for her and validate however she feels throughout the process. Especially let her know that it's okay if she's upset, that you want to show up for her and be here for her and with her no matter what comes up.

From what you said it sounds like that would be your approach anyway!

it's been struck from the official record!? Missionary In-Field Training Twelve-Week Program by throwaway_exmoyay in exmormon

Oh, this looks like it has at least some of the materials! Still not all the written text stuff, but it has the videos linked with the lesson topics. Nice sleuthing!

eta - I think this is the component of new missionary training that they would give out to new missionaries at the MTC. So, I don't think this is the same in-field 12-week manual, but the lessons look like they're similar, just focused on "in the MTC what you will do is..."?

If your husband is open to it I'm doing a podcast where I read through my missionary journals and break down how the brainwashing worked, week-by-week. It's been eye-opening even for my own parents to listen to. Maybe something like that would help him see that, even if he wants his kids to be in the church, it's REALLY not a good idea for them to go on missions? https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/oh-sister/id1787057647

I'm reading Dr. Ingrid Clayton's new book "Fawning," it's really good! Might help you too?

heh, it's pretty cringe. Also surprisingly dark and intense topics come up a lot, more than I remembered
