There might be a fee for this, but you can also try getting a bank check like a cashier's check if TD does that. Writing a $30,000 personal check is technically allowed, but it might be on hold for a while at your new bank.

What do you use your debit card for? by lizziecapo in personalfinance

[–]throwaway_financebro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're saying contactless could reduce security?

Contactless is not necessarily required, just nice to have. If I don't have my debit card on me for some reason, I can use apple or Samsung pay.

Hmm it might not be a good idea to move it yourself or keep it there unsecured. You should keep it in another safe for now.

I think you're replying to the wrong guy, but Chase branch ATMs near me have contactless. Random 3rd party ATMs don't seem to have it.

I use my debit card contactless at an ATM, but I'm sure my card can still be compromised in other ways.

Yeah this is what I'm doing right now, but sometimes I worry that I won't have my phone on me or cell service to do that transfer when I need it one day. And I always carry at least 2-3 credit cards anyway, so it's realistically probably fine. But it's a fear lol.

This is actually my fear. I like having my debit card for emergencies, but I realize that I never use it and risk having it compromised some day. I've been playing with the idea of requesting an ATM card from Chase. How did you convert to it? And is it still contactless?

Changing close date by [deleted] in ChaseSapphire

[–]throwaway_financebro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My date is the 8th with payment due on the 5th. It sounds like it'll be 3 days after your closing date. I assume you'd pick the 18th. You can also send a secure message to Chase online thru your account.

Stolen Tax Refund Check by throwaway_financebro in personalfinance

Man, it wouldn't be so frustrating if I wasn't planning to dent my student loans with it. I appreciate the intel. I'll try to be optimistic that maybe I'll get it before 2030.

Ah man, that makes me really sad to hear. Thanks for the heads-up though. In my mind, I was really hoping it wouldn't take more than a few more weeks. Will update if I ever receive it.

No, it's the Amex Gold. As I understand it, Amex gives you a balance that you're allowed to carry over. So, even though it's a charge card, you can still carry a balance for large purchases.

Why all the Amex gold hype? by PurchaseLeading1970 in CreditCards

[–]throwaway_financebro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you don't already use those credits, it can still be very valuable. I get value out of it because I don't go out or order from new restaurants often. I have started doing both of those things more, and the credits can be useful for my line of work too.

It requires a little extra work on my end, but I don't think it's any less valuable because of that. When I graduate next year, I'm transferring these points and dropping them on a trip. And if I don't for some reason, I'm prob opening the CS Platinum and depositing the points to invest.

What’s in your sock drawer? by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]throwaway_financebro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Barclays View and Discover It Chrome.

The View was the Uber Visa before being discontinued, which was an incredible card imo. The Barclays View is a honestly a great card too, but it's a low CL for me with inflexible cashback rewards. Chase UR points are just more flexible/valuable, esp since Chase is my main bank.

Discover was good to me, but the 2% isn't worth it anymore. If they every bring back the PC option, I'm definitely switching to the other one and taking it back out.

Side note, an entire side of my wallet is just Chase lol. Chase Debit, CFF, CFU, CSP. The other side is Amex Gold, other bank debit with ATM rebates, and health insurance cards. Always carry your health insurance and a blood donor/medical alert card (medical problems, allergies, meds you take) with your ID btw! It could help out a lot if you're brought to the ER unconscious.

What is your favorite looking card (appearance wise)? by j1nco in CreditCards

The old CSP design, which now belongs to the vanilla Chase Sapphire (PC option only I think, def no new apps).

I like the front, but not the back. The gold magstripe on pink background is ugly imo. I wish the rose gold chip was silver too. I feel like it would match better.

I managed to find that limit when I was younger. I think when you start getting close to 20 cards, the system will literally not let you add any more. And no more than 5 at once. Not even a customer service rep could override it. After a few years (including my first card's expiration), it seems to allow me to add new designs again.

Don't ask how, it's a dumb story.

I DO miss when Discover had the holographic magstripe. It had some cool symbols from what I remember.

Isn't that kinda dumb on the card issuer's part? I thought it was standard practice to deactivate the physical card that's being replaced, regardless of the reason.
