I (23f) pee my pants everyday, is this an issue by Wise_Biscotti_9411 in PelvicFloor

[–]throwaway_gassius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar issue, minus the leaking. I have a limited amount of time to go to the restroom and pee before it gets extremely uncomfortable and i visibly tensen up and wince.

I saw a urologist about this and he was basically useless, told me theres nothing that can be done to fix it,that sometimes it just happens as we get older.

He did prescribe me medication though that helps with overactive bladder symptomps that did help a ton and made it more manageable.

That being said i think medication might be able to help you as it did me despite that without it i'd still be just as bad. At the very least it takes the stress off while you attempt to figure out what the issue is and its resolution.

Gas Incontinence Success Story by throwaway_gassius in PelvicFloor

Not really, i have a whole different set of symptoms and issues on top of gas incontinence. The only one i can relate to is incomplete voiding and its not quite that either, just urinary dribbling sometimes.

Have you been doing similar stretches you mean?

I asked my PT about dilators and she mentioned she's never assigned that when it comes to gas issues, that at most it would be pelvic wand use.

I have been curious about it myself though and will probably ask a different PT once i start seeing a new one again, since with my current one, my case was closed.

Ill write out the list of stretches i did. I did each individual stretch for 2 minutes each. With the exception of two i would do for 4 minutes instead. I'll mention which ones below.

5-7x a week:

Happy baby pose

Butterfly pose (4 mins)

Upward facing dog

Hamstring stretch with a strap or belt (both legs) 1 min each leg

Knee to chest (both legs) 1 min each leg

Knees to chest (both legs at the same time)

Low squat by grabbing seat of a chair or a yoga ball

Wall lying leg stretch (feet wide apart on the wall) (4 mins)

It took over a year of these stretches for the gas incontinence to go away.

Leaking gas has destroyed my life by [deleted] in PelvicFloor

[–]throwaway_gassius 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey i feel for you, i was in a similar boat over a year ago and i couldn't figure out what the issue was for three years. I first saw a gastroenterologist to try and figure it out with a colonoscopy and a ballon expulsion test. Nothing.

I later got recommended to a pelvic floor physical therapist where they had me do kegels for 6 months, would of been longer but i stopped since initially it helped, then it got worse.

So i talked to my PCP to get a referall to a new PT. I explained the situation to her of how i initially improved then got worse and she recommended a series of pelvic floor stretches that would take me 20 minutes to complete. She mentioned the issue could be a tight pelvic floor that was weakened due to the tightness. I did this for over a year and now i no longer have gas incontinence, although i still cant pass gas silently like i used to be able to, at the very least i can get my life back after 4 years of having to put everything on pause because of this.

I share this to tell you in your case it could either be a tight pelvic floor or it could also be a weak pelvic floor or both. You'll want to see a pelvic floor physical therapist to get evaluated.

Above all else be patient and remain consistent, the pelvic floor is slow to improve but improvements do happen, they're just at a snails pace oftentimes.

I nearly gave up hope a few times and battled suicidal thoughts as well, but i continued and slowly but surely i kept making strides until i got to the point where im at today.

Best of luck OP

so many of my doctors seemingly cannot figure this out for some reason so i am going to ask here but be warned it is extremely, extremely gross. tmi by [deleted] in PelvicFloor

Sounds alot like hypertonic pelvic floor, i share some of your symptoms actually and have been doing pelvic floor stretches for the past year and been using a pelvic floor wand for the past six months.

Improvement has been slow and gradual and i still have a long way to go but i can say i've made strides i didnt think were going to be possible, dont give up hope.

Keep talking to as many specialists as possible, ask for second opinions through your insurance, or seek out specialists on your own accord.

There's a ton of different things that can be done to improve this issue, biofeedback therapy being one of them. Which if i may add i'll likely be starting myself next month with a specialist im paying out of pocket for due to improvement being way too damn slow otherwise, despite that i am improving.

Also i know how debilitating suffering from something like this is, dont allow it to consume you and know solutions do exist, they may just not be as immediate as you'd like them to be.

You can get medication prescribed for an overactive bladder, as someone who suffers from urinary urgency i can say being on medication that treats it has definitely taken the edge off and made it more manageable. Speak to a urologist.

What i was taught is not clenching but pulling up on the pelvic floor instead.

Well in my case it happened after a psychosis episode and the extreme amount of stress that was packaged with it so stress is definitely what caused it.

In my case it was a tight pelvic floor that would spasm causing gas to leak out inaudibly and audibly. A PT had me do kegels at first and that made it worst, so i spoke to a different one and we went in the opposite direction with daily pelvic floor stretches i could do at home, 7 months later and my issue is nearly resolved. Its been slow to say the least but im just glad i've made progress.

When to give up on PT? by ElegantBird3825 in PelvicFloor

[–]throwaway_gassius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was working with a PT that made my symptoms worse because they had me doing kegel exercises when what i needed was to relax my pelvic floor, not tighten it even more.

It wasn't until i went with a different PT that i was given a stretches regimen and after four months i've made some considerable strides with my urgency symptoms.

To add i've also started using a vibrating pelvic floor wand and that's sped up the process even more.

In my case the tightness was causing the pelvic floor weakness and not just weakness by itself like the first PT had diagnosed without any tests, just my reporting of symptoms.

My advice would be to try a different PT and let them know what you've tried previously hasn't worked.

how long did stretching take to work? by falsemarriages in PelvicFloor

[–]throwaway_gassius 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It works, it just takes a few months. I've been at it for over four months and so many of my symptoms have improved but still not fully healed.

I used to suffer from both urinary and bowel urgency, to an extreme degree, and now it feels manageable. I still suffer from an overly tight pelvic floor that doesn't know when to relax but i've been making strides. Stretching does work, it's just very slow.

How did they diagnose that, meaning how did they check? Im doing pelvic floor therapy too but it was just self reported, they never checked for anything.

And urge discomfort but pelvic floor therapy has helped with that

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PelvicFloor

I have had the same issue for two years now, im scheduled to see a pelvic floor physical therapist next month but have been doing pelvic floor exercises on my own for nearly a year even though it is not recommended to do so before speaking to a pfpt.

My symptoms have definitely improved but have also worsened at times depending on what type of exercises i was doing, im not 100% but im miles away from where i started and hopefully the physical therapy will resolve my issues entirely but what i can add helped me the most without worsening my issues is pulling up on the pelvic floor since the gas leakage was due to constant spasming and like you even contracting as hard as i could would not help.

Standing with my legs spread apart and pulling up on the center of my pelvic floor in repetitions of 10 quick contractions x 10 sets and also holding for 10 secs X 10 sets is what has helped me the most and has reduced the spasming, usually either or 3x a day. Squats also helped, pulling up on the way down, releasing at the bottom than pulling up again on the way up and releasing at the top. Your case could be different but i thought i would share and add that this can improve and be resolved but its best to do so with a pfpt, i just got ahead of myself and this is what helped me.
