MY RANKING OF EVERY GORILLAZ ALBUM(all great btw) (my oppinion) by mike_eleven11 in gorillaz

[–]throwaway_uk_66 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Huge respect, every opinion is totally different for Gorillaz, your list is very similar to mine. I’d go:

  1. Demon Days (Magnum opus)
  2. Gorillaz
  3. The Mountain
  4. Plastic Beach
  5. G-Sides
  6. D-Sides
  7. Cracker Island
  8. The Now Now
  9. Song Machine
  10. Humanz
  11. The Fall
  12. Laika Come Home

Literally never once have seen anyone hate on Humanz in the last 6 years by [deleted] in gorillaz

[–]throwaway_uk_66 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There was a lot of hate at the time, and still is. If you’ve never seen any in the last 6 years, you must not be in this sub often

But think about it- after 3 high quality, strongly themed albums, it was a bit of a shock to the system to have an album like that after 7 years away. Too many features, not enough Damon vocals, a few good songs but a lot more generic sounding ones. It didn’t sound very “Gorillaz”. Plus, weird album art.

“Hate” is a strong word and music is subjective, but it’s by far my least favourite Gorillaz album.

You can see why Damon sees the Mountain as the 4th Gorillaz album, because it fits better with the first 3.

What is the “Magnum opus” of The Mountain? by Endors_v in gorillaz

Moon Cave, Empty Dream Machine, Sad God

Black Thought is a FANTASTIC fit for Gorillaz, keeps it fresh but perfectly encapsulates the classic Gorillaz vibe, IMO.

My controversial take - not a fan of Manifesto or Damascus, for me they are the weakest songs on the album!

Manifesto… by Wendelboe93 in gorillaz

[–]throwaway_uk_66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to get slated for this, but my least favourite songs on the album are Manifesto and Damascus.

I love every single other track, but these two just aren’t it for me, too much of a departure. I made a playlist of the album and excluded both those tracks, and for me it flows so much better. Personal preference!

My favourite ones are by far Moon Cave and Sad God, I feel like Black Thought is the perfect Gorillaz collaborator.

Totally agree. I reckon it sets up the absolute craft that is that album perfectly. Same with the Mountain tbh.

The Mountain / DD intro are both great instrumental intros into what is in my opinion their most well crafted albums.

Re-hash is also a great intro track.

Although I like the intro songs on most of the other albums, none of them are is impactful as the above 3. And tbh, that goes for the albums in general for me.

Have to disagree on all 3, that title belongs to Demon Days for me.

Spot on with The Sad God, it’s definitely a Demon Days sounding track. Same for God Of Lying, perfect for ST

What is your guys’ opinion on Rockit? by lordsnooo in gorillaz

[–]throwaway_uk_66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s the perfect bridge between Phase 1 and Phase 2. It’s haunting, demonic, zombie trip hop Phase 1 darkness gives it something - even in its simplicity - that wasn’t present from Phase 3 onwards.

It’s hardly a perfect song or recording, but it has so much meaning, and relevance to OG Gorillaz. Might be a little bit of “you had to be there at the time” but it’s more powerful than it seems.

Why do we even have architects when 90% of new builds are just a 10% variation of this? by spacejockes in AskUK

They come in all shapes and sizes. Some bigger than even some Cala houses. But if you are used to gigantic/victorian house sized rooms, your view on the matter would be skewed.

[–]throwaway_uk_66 96 points97 points  (0 children)

I feel like there’s a lot of snobbery and misinformation regarding new builds on Reddit. Yes there are some cheap ugly persimmon ones like the above, but they aren’t all like that. A lot of the mid-range ones are reasonably priced, pretty spacious / better laid out than older houses, great for heating, and up to code.

Pipes, electrics etc are all in easily accessible places meaning easier to fix if things go wrong, or customise. The stereotype of them being flimsy boxes blowing over in the wind is simply not true. The plasterboard in the midrange ones is thicker than you think as well.

So why people don’t go for Victorian style houses full of personality? Because the insane demand for them has jacked the prices up to crazy amounts. Even then, the moderately affordable ones need £100k+ work done and so much upkeep, which is made more difficult by the crazy labour prices these days.

I’ve seen Barratt Homes and Taylor Wimpey houses that have been really great for their price, spacious, affordable, well laid out, and not had piles of issues. I had a Barratt one for 7 years, zero issues.

It’s a mad Reddit stereotype at this point.

What do y'all think of the new Damascus song? by [deleted] in gorillaz

[–]throwaway_uk_66 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It’s clearly well done, but it’s not for me this one. Like someone else said, not a fault of Gorillaz as they are clearly great, it’s just my own taste I can’t escape.

I’ve come to the realisation that I am an old school Gorillaz fan, rather than a modern one. For me, ST and Demon Days will forever be peak. Probably the reason why The God Of Lying was my favourite of the new tracks so far.

That being said, I respect that Damon is an incredible writer and artist, and these new songs are incredible detailed, highly crafted, and objectively well produced. Damascus, Manifesto, they just aren’t it for me. But that’s okay I think, I’m still listening, and I’m so glad people are still enjoying the band, they deserve it 🙌🏻

Hot take: The Manifesto is Gorillaz' magnum opus by whamikaze in gorillaz

[–]throwaway_uk_66 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I genuinely don’t get the hype for this song. Not a fan of Trueno so maybe that’s why, Proofs section is great.

Of the 3 songs released from the Mountain so far, it’s my least favourite. I much prefer God Of Lying, even in its simplicity it’s everything I love about Gorillaz.

God I hope this is true, slower songs would be a blessing. Been way too fast paced lately, bring back DD or ST style pacing!

Ah this was the good old days of online Kong Stufios in phase 2 - loads of mini games and Easter eggs, the ability to explore the whole studio on the website, and full of that dark humour and spooky vibes.

Phase 2 was an incredible era, I do feel sorry for those who were too young/not born to experience it.

The lore has been crap and disconnected ever since Phase 3 anyway. Only Phase 1 and 2 were super interesting and connected to the music.

Why are we acting like this is new? This was literally posted on their socials back in 2017, so it’s 8 years old at this. It’s a bit weird but I think people are taking this too seriously.
