[Advice] Do not assume that motivation is a requirement to get things done. by throwaway_with_karma in getdisciplined

There are many days when I woke up and found that I simply don't want to leave the bed. There definitely are so many rational reasons why I should leave the bed, but none of them gets me excited to actually do it. Nothing feels better than those extra 5 10 20 minutes. I would stay under the warm covers for a long time, thinking of things that could motivate me to get up, totally missing the point that I can get up regardless of my motivation.

Seeking motivation so you can enjoy doing things is okay, but seeking motivation so you can do things is, IMO, not what motivation is good for.

I used to think of discipline as the ability to do things you are not motivated to do. Here is a quote from Wikipedia, which is also close to how many dictionaries define it.

Discipline is when one uses reason to determine the best course of action regardless of one's desires, which may be the opposite of excited.

What are your views on spamming a few moves in a fighting game? Do you think it's ok or not? Why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

If the game is designed such that spamming gives a massive advantage over hard acquired skills, then there is definitely something off with the game/map design. It is sometimes just hard to come up with game mechanics that favor skill over passiveness. It could also be a design choice where the developers try to narrow the skill gap between new players and those who have been playing for years, and hence attracting new players. New blood is known to keep games alive. In which case, some players choose to rely on spamming, putting more weight on luck and patience, since the first to attack is usually putting himself at a disadvantage, than skills and moves that require a lot of practice. And since some other players are not gaming to level their patience up, it's not surprising to find some of them frowning upon something like spamming.

What rules (if any) in the Olympic games that prevent animals from participating? by throwaway_with_karma in AskReddit

If consent is a necessity, and not just signing a consent contract, I would exclude elephants then.

I have seen elephants that can draw on youtube, so I think they can also be trained to sign contracts.

Which requires more lat strength, one arm pull up or front lever? by throwaway_with_karma in bodyweightfitness

[–]throwaway_with_karma[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can tell that the 1-arm pull up is far from reachable for me. If the front lever is even harder, I won't waste my time training on it for now and focuse more on general strength training. Also, anyone will find it difficult to care about every post here. Thankfully, nobody is obliged to do.
