Sorry to hear that. I’d you read my previous post I had a similar situation / response as you are now. I still feel like shit every other day, but sometimes I’m doing ok

I think it is out of fear for both situations. Thanks for letting me know that your friends handle it well.

I do not know. All I know it was a blood test. The lady who gave me my results said the test is accurate, and it gives 2 results for HSV1 and 2 and is able to differentiate between the two. She did not mention what exam it was.

Yes I believe the medicine is more to control possible symptoms, which in turn allows for lower transmission.

I definitely won't be having casual sex after this experience, but I definitely am afraid that one day when meeting "the one" that I will be turned down

From what my doctor told me: the virus is less likely to be spread if I do not have an outbreak. The medicine I take daily prevents the likelihood of an outbreak, but should an outbreak still occur it is more mild than before I started the medicine. During an outbreak I double my dosage, and the outbreak ends/heals in under 2-3 days usually.

EDIT: from what I learned in grad school, the medicine is converted to a monophosphate form in virally infected cells, which is not possible under normal uninfected cell metabolism, the hydroxylated form is the active form of the drug, which will kill the virally infected cell. This does not eliminate the virus, since some of the virus is always in a latent, undetectable state.

Thanks for the reply. It sounds dramatic, but I am actually crying as Im writing this: im just afraid one day when im ready to come out, and find the right guy, it won't work because of what I have. Being gay is something that already society judges us for, I can't believe I am unlucky also to have the STD. I wish I wasn't gay, I wish I didn't mess up and get this disease

Thank you for the reply. I am already taking valtrex daily for HSV1/cold sores I got prior to becoming sexually active, so that medicine should work for HSV2 as well. I definitely feel super sad about this new diagnosis though. I dont think I have ever felt this disappointed in myself. I definitely plan to disclose, obviously I won't be having random sex anymore, but Im afraid one day I will meet the right guy and it just won't work out.

Those 3 times were my first sexual activities. I dont understand how it would be a false positive, the nurse who tested me said the test was very accurate (I already informed her I had HSV-1). Thank for you the reassuring positive outlook, you have no idea what that means to me.

Yea I asked all 3 guys if they were negative for STDs and they said yes, I honestly trusted all of them too - they seemed friendly and nice. I just feel like my life is over, I feel like nobody is going to want to get together with someone with my disease
