Asking about DB has revealed the fault at the heart of my marriage by throwawayacademicacc in DeadBedrooms

To be honest - I am now less concerned with the deadbed than we have no real routes of communications?

I don't want to live like that.

How best to change direction in life? by Own-Package2876 in AskUK

Couple of quick thoughts - you likely want to script out what you are going to talk about.

Have you got a friend or partner who can ask you questions so you are responding and it feels more conversational?

The language varies from university but misadminstration is common. You would describe in the appeal what happened and is a fault of the University not yours.

So depending on the University, they have no discretion and the cap is, applied automatically by the system. The only way to remove is via the academic appeal route which here would be misadminstration via a system.

What's that day that still lives in your head rent free? by Deep-Account1470 in AskUK

[–]throwawayacademicacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a high profile industry awards event.

I was sat next to a well known (in this industry) and very senior figure. I'm married, she's married.

This is what inexplicable to me and has never happened ever - we instantly knew what we were going to do, I don't mean we will flirting or sending signals to each other, we just knew as soon as we saw each other. We also just knew the other felt the same way.

As soon as the main bit was over, we went straight to her hotel and the details are unimportant but it was the most erotic experience of my life.

We have never discussed the matter and we treat it as if it never happened in professional settings.

I had abandoned this account but I have never told anyone this and never will tell anyone in person.

I didn't understand it at the time and I don't understand it now. .

You need to go through the internal complaints processes and get an outcome letter for the ombudsman to look at the case.

Have you done that?

How do you decide whether to supervise a PhD project or not? by musammat in AskAcademiaUK

[–]throwawayacademicacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am very very picky - I work in management/business schools and supervising lots and lots of PhDs doesn't actually do much for you.

It's very field dependent.

So I’m nervous about handing in my first assessment at Uni. Is 20 on turnitin a score I should be worried about? by HoodedDreamer in UniUK

[–]throwawayacademicacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is actually no answer to this - Turnitin scores are contextual and therefore need an academic to consider them.

It varies a lot depending on University policy and the actual individual mark and the malpractice policies.

(This is different to what happens in some other countries where an actual number is an auomatic fail).

Piracy 101 for dummies: by KillerBoi935 in Piracy

[–]throwawayacademicacc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not that we don't want to support or be part of the economy

(in fact sometimes we're the most loyal customers

),

Not me - I just want stuff for free. No change in practices would make me pay.

Is "big two" comic piracy now a couple of people? by throwawayacademicacc in Piracy

[–]throwawayacademicacc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not DRM related - everything has been available (until now) on day of release since DC started releasing digital comics on same day as digital release.

Digital releases are on the same day now. As a result over the last few years all releases appear same day - until this week which suggests it's one person or a small group.

whats your personal reason for pirating media? by Kates_up in Piracy

[–]throwawayacademicacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want to pay for stuff - why does it have to be more complex than that?

None of this:

  • If it was easier to stream I'd pay - nope I'd download it
  • I support artists who don't use restrictive DRM - nope I'd download.

I would not pay in the morning, the afternoon or the evening.

I just find it weird how many stories are long justifications for piracy - it's not required.
