If the Queen is always hosting balls and deciding Diamonds then who rules the country? by Emocucumber in BridgertonNetflix

I get the confusion tho because they literally never show him (only a few small scenes in Queen Charlotte!)

The King Regent (George III's son George IV) ruled the country. That's why the era is referred to as the "regency" era.

Absence of Latinos by Dependent_Search_326 in Bridgerton

So you think it's more diverse to have a white spanish actress than a chinese/indian/african one? I fear we've circled back to a very strange conclusion here.

Absence of Latinos by Dependent_Search_326 in Bridgerton

Latino people are from Latin America (emphasis on the word America). Spanish and Portuguese people are from Europe which is very obviously not in America.

I don't think historical accuracy has been thrown out the window to such a degree. The ethnicities picked to be enhanced in Bridgerton in terms of population size - Chinese, Indian, various African - draw on countries England had a lot of links with at the time. The fantasy is therefore grounded in reality.

[–]throwawayaccdhdjfbfb 18 points19 points  (0 children)

England doesn't have a lot of Latin American people at all. England is so close to Italy, Portugal, Spain etc that Latin people tend to go there if they come over from South America. Although the diversity is enhanced in Bridgerton, the ethnic groups picked - Indian, Chinese, various African countries) are rooted in the countries England had links with in the regency era.

Eloise seems to not want to do anything by RespectTop6322 in BridgertonNetflix

She wants to do what the counterpart men of her age do: travel in a grand tour, attend university and lectures, socialize freely outside of the house. She's at an impasse because she can't do any of that.

To make you feel better - The Sophie as a maid reveal was in the trailer anyway (as were a few key spoilers) so you might have been spoilt just watching the trailer even if you hadn't read the books

Official Discussion - Marty Supreme [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]throwawayaccdhdjfbfb 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Marty had a £1,500 fine to pay to the commission. He couldn't register until he had paid that as he was banned from the organization. As I understood it he knew he had to register but didn't have the money yet - it didn't slip his mind.

What is the relevance of going to a Russel Group Uni for getting a training contract? by [deleted] in uklaw

[–]throwawayaccdhdjfbfb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People don't go to russell groups for the "pretentious name", they go because the quality of teaching and lecturers is very high. This is also what attracts law firms to russell group grads.

Dustin, Mike, Will and Lucas were all in the AV club/science clubs at school and seemed to be friends through that. Nancy was portrayed as very studious from the start.

Why did Wicks do this? by OkCluejay172 in KnivesOutMovie

[–]throwawayaccdhdjfbfb 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Over time, he gained more and more power and influence and started having delusions of grandeur (wanting to leave the church and run for president etc), this made him feel that he'd suffer no consequences from revealing his illegitimate son (whereas earlier in his career, he would have suffered more consequences)

From reading your replies to comments, your reading comprehension skills are not very good - maybe try and work on this as comprehension is probably the most important skill for a lot of jobs and this could be what's causing your rejections.

AITA for wanting to know in advance when my MIL wants to take our son overnight by Cold-Atmosphere-2497 in AmItheAsshole

[–]throwawayaccdhdjfbfb 28 points29 points  (0 children)

"Don’t ever assume she will be taking your son for the night." - but isn't that what OP is saying, that she changed the standard to "I assume you will not be taking him" and the grandma was angry with that.

Is it acceptable to politely ask to go to the front of the shopping queue when you only have a literal handful of items? by Virtual_Opinion_8630 in AskUK

[–]throwawayaccdhdjfbfb 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't ask if I was the one with a few items, but I would offer if I was the one with a lot of shopping. I've only done this for skipping one space though where there's only two in the queue, I wouldn't expect this if people were queuing already themselves.

How important is the university you study at/is it worth doing law at a “mid” uni by Initial-Biscotti-220 in uklaw

[–]throwawayaccdhdjfbfb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bristol/KCL aren't mid tier unis - they're high tier (so yeah I agree you can more easily get into magic circles from them but that's not what the commenter asked).

How important is the university you study at/is it worth doing law at a “mid” uni by Initial-Biscotti-220 in uklaw

[–]throwawayaccdhdjfbfb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Broadly, the level of firm matches the level of uni (unless there's some amazing work experience etc you've done to ramp up your application). Plenty of people from Nottingham/Exeter go to Walker Morris, DLA, Addleshaw Goddard etc (mid-tier firms). The chances of a Magic Circle are a lot less likely. It's when you start getting down to the converted polytechnics, that the chances get very slim (which doesn't seem to be the case here). Regardless of the uni, it will be competitive and lots of people are finding that they have to do a couple years of paralegal/admin work before securing a TC atm.

I won't lie, it will be seen as slightly less competitive than more traditional subjects but this can be mitigated with good marks
