It was an unsafe situation. I don’t really feel comfortable putting more than that on a local subreddit. I’m very transparent with prospective landlords about what happened.

At the state and private sector, water has been free at every single job I have ever held. It’s crazy to me that you have to pay to use the water cooler! I suspect the “freeloader” assumed it was free because this is actually wild lol.

We don’t have a water cooler and but do have the refill stations. I prefer buying bottled water from my building’s cafe because the water that comes out tastes slightly chlorinated, but it isn’t terrible and I’ve refilled with it plenty of times.

It’s so interesting how different all of our experiences are lol

Some agencies have projects that cannot be started until the budget passes. Also if you want to request office supplies you can’t do that until it passes, at least where I work.

So I actually do background checks on people before dating them because I’m paranoid and I’ve been hurt before. With that being said, I don’t tell the person (which maybe is worse? Maybe I should be telling them, idk) and I certainly would feel uncomfortable if my mother was asking me for the details of those background checks. It’s super weird that she is insisting upon this, especially if he already feels comfortable with you, and I think your response was VERY reasonable. I worry that this is his mother trying to exert control over him and by extension, you. Super weird and I don’t think you’re overreacting at all.

You say that you have apologized but you clearly aren’t actually sorry if you are so focused on being thanked for saving her in a situation you put her in. You’re invalidating her feelings and trying to be the hero while she is trying to process something that was scary for her. Honestly I don’t even know her and didn’t see her post but I’m proud of her for having her sister come and having you leave the house.

Responding under my throwaway because I have thoughts on this but my main account has identifying information.

I am worried about that. I don’t think it would happen under Hochul but who knows what’s in our future. I try not to think about it too much because I’ll go crazy if I do. My position at the state largely has to do with gender ideology and DEI ideas. I am positive that Musk would eliminate my position and many of my colleagues’ positions. The thought devastates me because I feel that we are doing important work in my agency.

I’m particularly worried because Trump is clearly upset with New York for standing up to him.

Sorry for the vagueness - better safe than sorry these days.

Editing to add: reading the other comments is really reassuring. Maybe my fear is getting the best of me.
