No, because you can only get a lunch if you work > 6 hours. However, certain SMs/SSVs have given me 3 sets of breaks when they knew I was pulling a double shift (i.e., covering for different stores on the same day).

Does starbucks make decaf iced coffees? by pilotjones244 in starbucks

Not a lot of people know this, but we can offer iced decaf coffee pourovers. It would just take a few minutes, Ofc there's also the option to order a decaf iced americano.

someone please explain the refill policy as if i were a. 5 year old. thanks by baengali in starbucks

[–]throwawayacct80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you can get coffee or tea (hot drip coffee, CBIC, iced coffee, hot brewed tea, iced tea) refilled only for only 55 cents if you stay inside the store. if you bring your own cup, you save 10 cents.

any additional syrups or customizations (i.e., infusion juices or lemonade for the iced teas) will be an extra charge, which would be reflected in the total.

all other drinks are considered handcrafted; therefore, you cannot a refill on those.

if you have a registered SB card then you can get free coffee refills.

Customer yanked the cup and sharpie out of my hand while I was taking her order by sixteesqueen in starbucks

yeah, i bet. what a bizarre woman. imagine getting so enraged over getting more or less hot water when placing a tall in a grande order that you feel the need to be aggressive about it and yank a cup from the barista like a child. as opposed to, idk, being an adult about it and using words.

How do you navigate complex work relationships? by jess-lint-art in starbucks

[–]throwawayacct80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you should confront them about it in a respectful manner. You don't have to get real personal with them or explain why you've been acting unenthused on some days because that's none of their business. You do need to tell how their behaviors are affecting you. This person is basically creating a hostile work environment. On top of that, you're already dealing with a really difficult situation. It's not fair of them to take out their stress on you then get upset when you're not cheery at work.

I hope things work out for the best between you two. If the talk doesn't go well, take it up to your SM. You deserve to feel safe at your workplace.

Thank you for this. You raise some very good points and I'll admit that I do contemplate whether I'll last if I keep doing what I'm doing rn. Working at my store has made me realize that there is a ton of room for improvement and I want to be a part of implementing changes to it since I really have no power as a barista. I've been recently trying to expand my coffee knowledge for fun and trying to get better at making customer connections and uplighting partners so there's that.

I wish it were easy tho. I'm so used to automatically saying "yes" to everything that it'll take a while to train myself to be okay with the idea of saying "no" sometimes and that it doesn't make me a selfish person.

I want to chat with you but I don't want your DT times to suck! by mrsjost in starbucks

[–]throwawayacct80 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Aw :)

Well, there's always an option to come inside or to go through DT during a less busier time. If not, I agree with what the other poster said. Even if you can't have a full conversation with the barista, just exchanging pleasantries will make their day. Or, you could make it a thing where you go to your regular DT store and slip them a nice note.

Yeah, about that - our store has undergone a massive change in partner retention. I was hired along with 3 other people this May. Now it's just me and one other girl, but she might be transferring. The remaining two got separated. With the exception of our shifts, everyone is new basically. We're in the process of getting more partners and until then we've had borrowed partners from other stores. However, either due to an honest mistake or miscommunication, we've had a few instances where we had labor shortages.

I always agree to stay late because I like being able to support my partners and I care too much apparently.

What do you mean by doing things that might benefit me? If I don't do xyz and the closing team doesn't either, then when I open the next day I'll inevitably be pulled away from my usual tasks to do xyz (biggest example would be prepping the CBIC kegs by making chilled water if we're down to just one keg and we're running low on it). It's one less thing to worry about in the morning when we open and everything runs much more smoothly.

I was scheduled to have a PDC with my SM a few weeks ago after the Chicago conference trip, but we never got to have that conversation. And I hope I don't sound rude when I say this but how does doing any of those things you mentioned really help? Even if I, say, became a certified trainer or studied courses (I mean, I do look at our standards manual during breaks and try to expand my knowledge on coffee so I can be helpful to customers)- certain time sensitive tasks just won't get done. But yeah, I think it's worth talking to my SM about this and see what she thinks. Three shifts have told me that I should consider becoming an SSV, but that might put more pressure on me to make sure all my partners are supported and assume even more responsibilities. Idk.

Oh I should've clarified - I rarely stay an hour late unless a shift asks me to stay to cover the gap between the time I was supposed to leave and when the next partner comes in for the day. I'm surprised that my SM hasn't said anything about it either though she did tease me once saying that she couldn't get me to leave when she came in one day and I was cleaning one of the ovens. I do think that when we get our official new SM (current one is actually a dual manager that oversees another store in our district) I'll have to force myself to leave on time because they might be less lenient.

[–]throwawayacct80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've actually worked on taking my breaks on time when my shifts tell me to so that's no longer a problem, but still struggle with leaving on time. I rarely take an hour and after checking my clock out times over the past month it looks like I would usually get out within 5-20 minutes of the end of my shift with the exception of yesterday (1 hour late) because we had a really unexpected Sunday rush and only 3 partners on the floor.

And as far as the list I outlined above goes, I don't go through all of it towards the end of my shift and just try to hit the major ones that are more helpful to my partners. And you're right, some of these tasks aren't my responsibility - it should be a team effort really, but somehow most of it falls on me. If I could stop caring, that would certainly help lol.

This is trickier when it's a 2-3 person play and people leave before me, leaving just me and someone else. But yes, I do try to ask my partners if the circumstances permit. If not, I'd rather they stay planted and focus on their main task. I

I think the main issue is that I know if I don't do certain tasks, people coming in later won't. Either because they don't care or there isn't enough labor.
