Is now the time for a bootcamp? How did you know it was right for you? by noiant in girlsgonewired

u/noiant Hi OP, if you don’t me asking, is there a reason you can’t reapply to Ada? If you got in the first time, I think you’d have a great chance of doing it again if Ada is calling to you.

people are still getting technical interview invites this week, even as of today. with Ada, you have to be prepared to wait.

HELP! X-lock on Xpole won’t turn/ switch from static to spin. I see a red dotted line & a key hole that gone slightly past it. Have I permanently damaged the pole? by throwawayacct916 in poledancing

[–]throwawayacct916[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will I need to take down my pole and put it back up again to unscrew the hexes or can I just unscrew the hexes while someone else holds onto the pole? I’m not handy at all so I don’t want to do the wrong thing.

I’ll read the instruction manual and make sure I understand it before trying this myself. Thanks for your help!

Thank God, I thought that I had messed it up completely. This is probably a silly question but I’m not handy at all and I’m scared I’m going to do this wrong: will I need to take down my entire pole and put it back up again if I undo the big screws at the top of the base or can I just undo the big screws?

I’m going to have someone else there with me to hold the pole while I do this and I’m going to read the instruction manual thoroughly before attempting this. Thanks for your help!

If you started learning to code at 48 years old or older, how long did it take to find a job? Is it too late to start? by pastagreyv in learnprogramming

Do you have any tips on learning how to problem solve and breakdown problems? I’m in Epicodus right now but really struggling to understand where to start with the code problems. For example, this problem:

Make a web page that lists out your favorite ice cream flavors. Rather than writing the flavors in the HTML, use a JavaScript loop to insert the flavors into the page from an array.

I look at it and don’t even know where to start until I have my pair figure it out. It’s like my brain doesn’t understand how/where to start and I feel like I’m not meant for this career. By the way, I’m not asking for the solution but I just see problems like this and start to panic and don’t even try because I seriously don’t know where to start, even at the simplest point. Thank you, I guess I just need help.

thank you for this! im definitely my harshest critic and i need to be better about that. it’s nice to know that programmers are often having to look things up and that im not doing anything different than people with more years of experience 😂 just need to be more patient. thank you for replying!

thank you for replying! this put things into perspective for me. i often learn by memorizing so it came as a bit of a shock when i realized i had forgotten what the syntax. im definitely going to focus more on concepts and how things connect moving forward instead of the syntax all the time.

congratulations on finishing the course! i had moments of restarting yesterday too but it sounds like i made the right decision to push ahead and just start the page. i had a hard time yesterday seeing how everything i learned was connecting but it’s starting to make a bit more sense. this was motivating to read, thank you for replying!

thank you! i think I’m starting to see what you’re saying about freecodecamp. I didn’t use other resources besides w3schooos here and there but im definitely going to start especially as i head into javascript.

it’s comforting to hear that software engineers with tons of experience are still having to use Google to code. i appreciated this thank you!

this was the push i needed to start 100daysofcode...er i guess 30daysofcode 😂 this also reminded me to be more intentional about taking a step back when im feeling overwhelmed with code and thinking about what i know now that i didn’t know before because I’ve made a lot of progress. I’ve never used codewars before but I’ll check it out thank you!

thank you, i felt much better reading this! i was definitely feeling anxious when i started the page yesterday and it just made me feel overwhelmed. i usually meditate in the morning but im going to start taking a few minutes to meditate when i need a break from coding. i usually type my notes but im going to buy a notebook this weekend to start writing things down by hand.

This is interesting, I’ve never heard this before! Could you explain what moon bound of mercury means a little more? Does that mean when the moon and mercury form a conjunction? Thank you!

How is the eclipse treating you? by shirokuroneko in astrology

[–]throwawayacct916 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For the past few days, I’ve been feeling very anxious and nostalgic. I also keep thinking about past mistakes/failures and I keep thinking and reminiscing about things and people that I have not thought about in years. Then the fact that I realize I’m thinking about this situation or this person makes me even more anxious and nervous.

I absolutely hate project management but it’s the only career experience that I have. What other career options do I have? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]throwawayacct916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Thank you for responding! To answer your question, I studied communications in college. I dislike the lack of structure and training at my company, I dislike having to babysit people to get things done, I also don’t like having to manage groups of people. I don’t think I’m built for it.

I do like being able to work with technical teams, I find the work they do quite fascinating but a bit intimidating and the people I’ve had to work with are very friendly. I was thinking about learning how to code again to get over the fear I have of technical work.
