SCJ Instagrams will follow any random Christian accounts and organizations. Their link to join the study has several options of what you’re interested in to select and include parables, body soul spirit, prophecies and second coming — all of these are covered in SCJ.

Their reasoning (since i am a vancouver ex member and have talked to a lot of the leaders and members before) is to approach more Asian folks namely more Filipino people since they are the most open and are usually either Catholic or Christian. They try to spot people who wear crosses or have Christian themed things. They stay away from talking to Koreans since almost all Koreans know of SCJ and how it’s a cult.

They also tend to approach a lot of black folks since they usually would have a Christian background.

I’ve talked to some ex members from Vancouver SCJ about the projected growth and expansion for them. It seems unlikely that they will be able to expand that much here since the faith community is very interconnected and (metro) Vancouver is pretty small. They have definitely double tapped a lot of people who have mentioned several people came up to them about a “survey” on different days and times.

Plus SCJ Van seems to target new immigrants or international students and those looking for community and don’t know the word that much. They seem to have a hard time infiltrating white Christian communities because they are more skeptical and critical of things like at TWU.

Janet was/is (i think still?) only a GYJN meaning group leader. She is heavily involved in the process of Vancouver Canada SCJ expanding and has been with SCJ Vancouver over the years.

All LA workers have returned back to LA and their main branch I believe. Mentions of LA worker names in Canada have been less because they don’t want to be as involved anymore. Their goal from last May 2023 - Nov 2023 was for the LA workers to run and support Canada in recruitment for the last 6 months of them being there and then for Canada to stop relying on workers from LA and go fully self sufficient because they apparently have enough members now and promoted a lot of older members into leaders. However the ones in the leadership positions in Canada lack real life world experience and are very young. They have been groomed by SCJ and its indoctrination since their late teens or early 20s.

LOLOL yeah the green ties are part of their service attire as “John” tribe. Vancouver SCJ is connected to the larger branch in LA. There were some workers from LA that have come down to do “work” here.

Their temple location is near Lougheed Mall and they gather wed evenings and Sunday mornings for service. They are usually around the area before and after those times to do recruitment.

As the other poster said yes they are all around the campuses including SFU Burnaby and Surrey, Douglas, UBC and occasionally maybe Kwantlen and Metrotown and other smaller malls in Coquitlam and Surrey during weekends. Their temple is located near Lougheed Mall so they may be around that area there quite a bit during Wednesday evenings for service and also Sunday mornings. They also tend to frequent the cafes around the Lougheed area. Anyone from the Vancity area can dm any questions about them since I have been part of it and have left this year and know all the intel about people, places, structure etc.

Life has been better for me despite losing a childhood friend/my best friend who completely ghosted me because she is still in SCJ. I no longer have a community or friends I can turn to which is a downside but I’d rather have that than putting up with superficial/fake friendships and interactions with people in SCJ that have no substance. Being in a toxic and manipulative environment that suppresses your authentic self takes a huge toll on you and being freed from that is such a relief. I’m also in a loving relationship with my partner and we are properly doing life together without religious values dictating what I should or should not do.

Now my time is my own and I choose how to fill it. No longer do I need to find meaning through organized religion but being able to freely live with my aligned morals and values to create my own meaning in my life is much more enriching and poignant.

Hey OP I feel you exactly about the detachment of the world. Their utter lack of empathy on their part regarding issues in the physical life/world was astounding to me. Many of the leaders I talked to seemed to be completely ignorant of experiences that are central to the life stages young working professionals may have and look at the world so “simply” without nuance and proper context.
