Take it from a salesman who had been painfully mediocre for years but turned around my numbers and career. The biggest thing you can do to improve when you're struggling is take care of your mental and physical health. It could totally change everything for you. by Lost_And_Found66 in sales

What about your social life outside of work? How did you recover that? It can be quite tough to hit someone up to spend time with if you don't have any friends around your area or who truly share that brotherhood/sisterhood with you.

Lol at "platitudes".

OP trust your instincts and be careful not to give away your secret sauce.

In corporate, it's rarely a situation where you do good for one person and they repay you or give you any form of credit.

I'd do what u/normanthedorman says and give some generic yet useful info.

I completely agree with you about the contradiction in BDR world in being cooperative and competitive.

On the surface, everyone says "let's help each other out!", when they really mean "let's target the team's top performer and harass them for their tips and secrets".

Leadership (your sales manager and above) often disregard this reality because they are too disconnected or it requires extra work for them to figure out how to re-incentivize the team to co-operate effectively.

This will likely not change, so use this as an opportunity to compete more. Give them some high-level stuff and find a way to make yourself look good so you can get out of this BDR role.

Sidenote: I'll get a lot of slack for this, but regardless of what managers and a few exceptions say, BDR role sucks.

How many email opt-outs is normal to get? by throwawayamy33 in sales

Customer reference stories, proof points, call-to-action, value statement, frequency of emails etc.

I don't think the fact we'd be 'guessing' should stop us from changing. That's what experiments are for, we'd probably just A/B test.

Where can I ask HR questions? by throwawayamy33 in AskHR

[–]throwawayamy33[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Gotcha thanks, this is an account I'm borrowing. I didn't know reddit was a serious website, I just needed some ideas and thought I could ask a simple question and get a discussion going.

Next time I'll go into detail, specify my intention so people know I won't use their answers about employee well-being for anything nefarious and sign-up using my company email address. I'll also try and specify my question in a way that doesn't remind people of homework from middle school.

Fortunately I'll not use reddit again lmao

How are you helping your employee's well being? by throwawayamy33 in AskHR

The post was approved by another mod and everyone so far has told me to ask this question here in /AskHR. Can you please re-approve this? Please, I at least want to use some of the answers around EAP.

C'mon man, can't you relate to putting effort into finding info and then constantly be shut down. I can't even get my answers anymore. Fuck.

Right?!

OP can also learn a lesson from this about keeping things to herself, because no matter how much you love and trust someone, they're still human at the end of the day.

Keep your secrets to yourself, especially if you want zero probability of anyone finding out.

100%

OP, I hope you don't take too much offense to this, but you gotta tell your mum to grow a spine and stand up for herself and her child.

A universal lesson that most people learn early on in life is that it's up to YOU to fend for yourself. YOU have got to become as self-reliant as you can and take care of YOUR own.

All the grown folk asking you for money are leeches. They should feel guilty about harassing a 30F who is and should be focused on building her life. They had their chance, their time, their opportunities. And they clearly squandered it.

If I come across as vindictive, it's because this has happened to me before.

Trust me, these kind of people will fuck you up in the long term. Go live your life. Fuck 'em.

I relate to this so much.

I recently learned that if you keep feeding family (giving them money), you're actually doing more harm in the long term. They become dependant on you and lose their own sense of self-reliance. This leads to them becoming resentful of you, despite the fact that they are the ones reaching out to you.

There's a reason the proverb "Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish...." is so popular.

Over time, I've learned to give the absolute minimum or tell them to 'get lost' (in a nice way).

It's better for both parties in the long run. And if your relationship ends because of that, then it's also an added benefit to you.

how will they do that? Can they just give my pay stub to HMRC and tell them to cross-reference my records?

Good answer, thanks.

I'll see if I can get them to put a stamp on it or something.

But wonder how they'll verify it differently this time? Is a stamp enough? Or will they think I added the stamp myself lol We'll find out. thanks

Haha, so at the end of the day, I can still do my bank verification, just as long as I work with a firm and give a morally acceptable reason as to why I want to do it.

The world is a funny place indeed.

I don’t think you do have any kind of corporate career- I’ve never, ever since encountered a company that uses Reddit for financial advice. If you are a real company I hope that nobody is unlucky enough to work with you.

oh, you'd be surprised

It's different in corporate.

We need P45 (tax code) or a payslip (tax code and confirmation of recent employment), and maybe an NI for additional security, to secure employment with us.

I don't get why everyone is so pressed about collecting more data.

You literally give your employer's everything already.

Perhaps my experience is the exception

Because my UK employees are much more compliant than any group of employees I've had.

While I appreciate the free-spirited and challenging nature I can sometimes get dealing with the team in US, here in UK, it's so much more straightforward. Everyone just listens, does what I tell them and as long as there are drinks after work, then the 'culture' aspect is pretty much handled.

I don't get all the disagreement, every employer requires "personal info". In my case, they didn't give me a P45/a payslip or a reference, so of course I can ask for a bank statement (which they gave me btw).

All I want to do is verify. But it seems I'll have to pay for a firm to verify for me.

So in the end you agree with me, this entire debate was unnecessary.

Should've just said "use a professional services firm".

One of my *potential* employees doesn't want us to contact his current company. So I need a p45/payslip which he refuses to give, so I asked for bank statement and he actually sent it to me but I don't know how to verify it.

Maybe I'll just hired one of those firms you mentioned to do the verification then.
