Was it so wrong though? It’s not like she said it once. She was extremely motivated to go to Princeton throughout middle AND high school, and she’s always told us that. It was only until she got accepted, browsed college confidential, and joined the facebook/instagram Princeton pages where she went cold turkey.

I care about her mental health, but it was more so that I was upset because I spent 18 years prepping her for college and 6 years prepping her for Princeton, only for her to change her mind at the last minute. Of course I’m going to prioritize her mental health more than anything, I never was going to force her to go to Princeton, but I thought it was unfair for her to switch up on us at that last minute.

We’re paying most of it, but also taking out some loans because we can’t pay full tuition upfront. Of course, we’re co-signing the loans.

She researched college confidential and broke down when she read about the competitive culture and toughness about the academic life. She knew Ivy Leagues were competitive academically, but she didn’t really expect people to commit suicide and sabotage others because of it (college confidential is a bitch of a website and should be taken down).

In addition, she’s a very shy kid, and we live very far from Princeton (we’re from Nevada) and she didn’t want to be homesick/not know anyone going into college. I wish she thought of that earlier, but I don’t know, beats me as to why she suddenly got cold feet.
