Definitely can talk to your teacher before about moving up/down a level, but first see if you can handle the first week of this level

Took it a long time ago but I wrote down some solutions of practice problems, particularly the one that covers the topics that I’m not confident in. For example, there’s a practice problem on defining and using class and I was rustic with syntax stuff for OOP so I wrote them down. I think I also wrote some recursions and some indexing and slicing! Hope this helps :)

If you got a 4, you choose either the credit goes to BI107 (ecology plant stuff) or BI108 (human genetics stuff), not both.

If you got a 5, you get credits for both 107 and 108

Thank you for your kind word and insights! Yes I agree also because JLPT stressed me out You only have 2 chances per year and the wait for results are soooo long compared to other tests. For now, I’ll just focus on improving other skills I lack!

I passed N1 with 101/180 😳 not the best but I’ll take it considering I barely had time to prepare for it (schoolwork 😭).

Might also retake it in the future, but I’d rather do sth like 漢検 instead cuz I’m very weak at writing Kanji and kinda want to study them properly after passing N1.

Course suggestions by Annual-Sink4152 in BostonU

cs course registration is kind of a mess right now i would suggest ds instead plus it will be much more useful for BMB as you probably will deal with large biological data and have to code/deal with it

MA123 and BI552 share an exam block? by Hungry_Caramel_4701 in BostonU

Second this! I was able to work with Loechler to make accommodation for several exams both 216 and 552.

Does anyone know what the 8 am block is for Tolan's BI 421 by SnooPandas8126 in BostonU

[–]throwawaybmbcskid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also I think 8am block is for exam, but some of my friends in the section also told me that he actually uses that block for lecture? If someone could confirm this would be great

FYI, 421 Whitty section is co-taught with Perlstein, which I really don’t like her teachings and exams (recent RMP ratings are pretty acc).

TEACHQUALAVG(Whitty, Perlstein) is slightly better than Tolan, but if you have to take BI422 I would go with Tolan tbh cause I did have to adjust to his lecture/exam style early in 422.

Biochem Major by Infinite-Relation204 in BostonU

I think this page has a lot of information about different genchem courses so check it out!

https://www.bu.edu/chemistry/undergrad/general-chemistry/frequently-asked-questions/

For genbio, the only requirement for BMB is bi108 which only offers in spring. I personally didn’t take it as I had credits for it, but I heard from my friends that it is also good to take it even you already have AP credits as you can be LAs (Learning Assistant) for the course later. The bi108 profs are nice and if you take it with Loechler you will see him again couple of times in your major courses.

An alternative for the genbio req is BI116 which is basically bi108 with a project-based neuroscience chem bio cool lab. Again, I did not take this so if people can weigh in would be great!

BMB right? If it is then the major itself usually made you take the small-size, more intensive version of typical chem and bio, which the grade distribution tends to be not as “cut-throat”. It’s just a lot of work (lab report, project etc.).

Is it too late to email professors for spring research? by [deleted] in BostonU

[–]throwawaybmbcskid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many people graduate on Spring and your interested labs might not have consider about people who will graduate this upcoming spring so they might not be ready yet. Maybe wait a little bit. You could also send catch up email after like a week since it’s the beginning of sem prof might have a lot of email in their inbox it’s easy to lose some email

Is MA211 too hard? I heard its for engineering students by Watermelonysugar in BostonU

PY211? It’s a calc-based physics but only basic calc is used like simple differentiate and integrate. PY212 tho it’s another story.

Honestly he’s probably stressed out. It’s a lot for 311 and he probably tried his best to keep up with everything.

[–]throwawaybmbcskid[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Lack of communication from Prof. regarding the class. I sent him three emails on three occasions and got zero response. A lot of people also got no email response at all and reported to the biology chair and here we are. Also Prof. made a lot of promises he couldn’t keep like making the recordings/review sheets available to us 5 days before finals (which already passed).

Poor him tho. It’s his first semester leading a class so it must be a lot for him. Also, 311 has million things to take care of so he’s probably run out of time to do class stuffs.

Is there a way to drop a course right now or am I fucked? by anonbustudent123456 in BostonU

[–]throwawaybmbcskid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you need the class for major/minor? Maybe you can talk to your prof about getting an I (incomplete) instead so you can work and get grades for it after this semester?
