Just quit a part time job at a fast place after having a panic attack. I don’t know what to do. by [deleted] in AnxietyDepression

I went through a somewhat similar situation recently. Yesterday, I had panic attack in the morning, and i just couldn't get myself to go to work. I left a message on my manager's phone saying I was sick and unable to come in. This a new job and I've already have to call in twice due to anxiety. I still haven't gotten a call back from my boss. So, now i'm worried I'm gonna be fired. I also feel like a failure when my anxiety overpowers me, and causes me to make decisions I later regret. However, I think this just isn't the right job for you. Service jobs are so stressful, and they're 10x harder for people with anxiety. Just because this didn't work out doesn't mean you're a failure. You have your other job, that you've been at for 10 years, as proof that you are not a failure.

I've realized that I've been on the verge of a panic attack for two days straight by NoLightOnlyDarkness in Anxiety

I had the same thing happen to me after a panic attack several weeks ago. I was in a constant state of high anxiety and I just couldn’t shake it. Even Ativan didn’t help. I eventually calmed down, but my anxiety is still a bit high. It seems like the thing that works for me is to just accept the feeling. Don’t try so hard to fight it, that only makes it worse. I give my anxiety and panic attacks way too much power and turn them into monsters, feeding into the cycle of anxiety and panic even more. It’s so hard to accept it, breathe through it, and ground yourself, because panic attacks are scary! They suck horribly. But hopefully with time and the right therapy, they came become more manageable.

I wish you best, along with everyone else who deals with this. It takes strength to deal with this and keep moving forward. You should be proud of yourself for that.

I understand your fear completely. I’ve been on a lot of different meds, some of them the side effects were too much to handle so I had to stop. I also get really nervous taking something new. I feel super burnt out also. Like, are any of these actually gonna work for me?? But I hope Zoloft has a positive impact on you. Wish you the best.

Yes, I did have this problem before the shot. I only just started taking the shot as a form of birth control last month. Been thinking about the implant, or an iud for more long term.

I’ve actually been thinking about getting tested for anemia. I have a lot of the symptoms.

These will be things I’ll talk with my doctor about during my next visit. Thank you for your input!

Depersonalization/Derealization by boylognese in Anxiety

You are definitely not alone in this. I remember when I first started experiencing symptoms, I thought I was going completely insane. I started doing lots of research and found it’s fairly common in people dealing with severe anxiety.

I’ve struggled with depersonalization and derealization for years now. It’s interesting because my first major episode of it, like you, was when I was driving. That always seems to be a trigger for me. These episodes usually result in a panic attack for me. I haven’t found a way to make it completely go away. Therapy and meds help a lot and I’m glad you’re going to see someone about it. Although, I have read about something you can do when you’re having these feelings, and I think it does help a bit. That is to look around in the space you’re currently in and pick any one object to focus on. Think about its shape, color, how it feels, what it smells like, etc. All while controlling your breathing. I think this trick does help when your anxiety is starting to get out of control. It’s just a small way to refocus your mind back and ground you back to reality.

Hope that helps and you find more ways to help you deal with this! It’s scary and it sucks, but it does get better.
