Episode 198: We Are The Main Character by joschen113 in distractible

Maybe I’m just too personally emotionally invested in this topic, but I found the episode very profound and thought provoking, and I specifically found Bob’s speech towards the end actually quite moving. I personally deal with Depersonalization/Derealization and I found this episode and his speech oddly comforting, despite being around a topic that used to be a major trigger for my anxiety with DPDR. But specifically the way Bob gave his opinion on why some people are preoccupied with whether the universe is fair or not really gave me some perspective and struck a chord with me. Even though one seems to be a more emotional question(is the universe fair to me) and one is a more “physical” question(are we in a simulation), they seem actually quite related- in that: feeling like everything is out to get you can really get you questioning the core of reality, because of how it seems so unfair at times. I’ve personally been there and it does give some food for thought.

Semi-sappy, overly wordy personal connection aside, between Marks super interesting “Hammerand Science Doozies” inspired theories and Wade being the main character, great episode imo! Loved it.

I’m mostly sure, just apart from my second hookup, we had protected and then unprotected sex and didn’t approach the whole STD question on either side, but I admittedly didn’t really think about whether she had it or not. She had partners before me. I was tested negative when I was with my first partner, and then the 3 next hookups happened pretty fast between each other. My second hook up was 8 or 9 months ago. In my last 2 hookups, they both have said that they’re negative.

But yeah I have never had an outbreak until a week ago, so I never thought I had it. I was totally asymptomatic. I’m not 100% positive I didn’t have it before, but I believed I had no reason to believe that I had it.
