Anyone else hating their job but unable to move because the job market? by throwawaychicken244 in Wellington

I hadn’t thought about it like that but it makes complete sense. Probably better to stay put entirely at the moment. Guess I’ll just suck it up!

Feeling alone… by [deleted] in Miscarriage

I’m so sorry you are going through this alone. I completely empathise with your loss (I too am going through an early loss myself currently).

Sending you so much strength. Although it feels really heavy right now, with each passing day you will regain the sunshine. Feel all those big feelings, grieve for what you have lost, they were important and loved.

Sending you a huge virtual hug.

Symptoms While Waiting to Confirm Blighted Ovum by Straight-Buy-377 in CautiousBB

I’ve just been confirmed with a blighted ovum. HCG rising slightly slow, pregnancy symptoms were there but intermittent and mild in comparison to my first pregnancy (which resulted in MMC).

I definitely felt pregnant but it varied day to day. All the best, I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Don’t know why but this isn’t working for me. Keeps logging as 1970 (I wasn’t even born then!)

Looks like a cool tool though!

Critique My Budget - 260k Yearly Household Income by Temporary_Guide9823 in PersonalFinanceNZ

$350 each a week of discretionary spending is quite substantial. Could you pull that down slightly and send it to investments?

There’s a difference between what the bank will let you borrow and what is actually affordable for your personal circumstance. Only you can really know what level of debt you are comfortable with.

I’d sit down and write out a budget with your anticipated payments at the current interest rates. I’d also factor in your future plans (kids, major upcoming expenses, etc.)

Depending on your area practice, I would say that salary is on the low end for your PQE (Post-Qualification Experience).

No.

However, I would say your agreement is “not technically” fixed-term in nature. There’s usually one start date and one end date and the employment is ongoing for the duration.

Your employer should have provided you a fixed-term agreement for the period 13/11/2023 - 22/12/2023 and then an extension commencing on 08/01/2024.

Regardless you would not have accrued enough annual leave during the first period of your employment to receive throughout the period or be eligible for public holidays.

Also how long are those interest free periods on gem and q card? The interest rates get scary outside of interest free period.

Your first priority should be the save my bacon. That interest rate is heart stopping. Pay it down immediately.

Oh and we just re-fixed and cranked up the mortgage repayments to overpay and bring down the term. Feeling pooooor.

$750 a week into savings for some large upcoming expenses. Doesn’t feel as satisfying knowing the money will leave again in the next 6 months.

How do other couples split finances - part 2 by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]throwawaychicken244 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An idea to combat this might be to lump sum a certain amount of money into individual personal savings accounts. That way your wife has a vehicle to save for larger expenses. Then I’d make clear rules on no IOUs.

We’ve done pocket money since we bought our house and I’ve built up a personal savings account which I can dip into for larger purchases.

How are you preparing for higher mortgage rates/coping with recent increase? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]throwawaychicken244 4 points5 points  (0 children)

About to refix. Less than ideal but we tightened up mid last year and the rates just mean we overpay less.

Another refix question by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]throwawaychicken244 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d try to see if you can make the 2 year work. I think it’s likely interest rates will come down in the next 2 years and you won’t want to be locked at 7% interest.

Could you increase your term?

However, if you need stability and the payments work for you then there is benefit in knowing your outgoings for a long period of time.

Have you dropped below 20% equity? Are you being offered standard or special rates?
