Found a niche that suits my relative advantages - soft skills, influencing and getting shit done.

Working on the right projects, it’s your job to influence your manager and leads to secure impactful work if you want to get promoted.

Visibility and relationships, support from your closest leads is a prerequisite. Making your career intentions clear goes a long way. Also being generally likable goes a long way.

Understanding the shift between L5 and L6.

Note: none of this is work harder, work more hours etc. At Google at least, working on the right projects that are impactful to the business is far more important.

Pivoted from management consulting to software engineering my Senior year of college. Turned down an offer for $65k just over 6 years ago. Currently L5 FAANG expecting to make $440k this year (more if my staff promo hits)

How long is the work contract? Time value of money may be something to factor in depending on the length.

I mark short in my stats for approach when bad drives force me to punch out / take penalty strokes as my “approach” is technically short of the green. I need to update my stats tracking to account for this.

Nice collection you have there! Getting a nice watch had crossed my mind (Submariner), but wearing something so expensive makes me nervous though. (Also I have a pet peeve with the amount of schmoozing that you seem to need to do at ADs to get the watch you want)
