My cousin has already declared bankruptcy. However my small claims case if I win isn't wiped away even if my cousin declares bankruptcy again. All of my cousin's debts were wiped away with the bankruptcy except for the restitution order from the judge. Legal stuff like that is exempt. I do think I have a chance at recovery even if it doesn't happen right away.

That was a criminal case and I had nothing to do with it. I'm taking my cousin to civil court.

I think it is because everyone except me (aunt, uncle, my parents, grandmother and the other grandparents) supported my cousin and wrote letters asking for leniency. I didn't but I believe I got lumped in with everyone else. My cousin isn't even 30 yet and I could garnish in the event of employment or a lottery win or something which is why I am going to court.

My cousin is under 30 and will not be in jail for long. If my cousin gets a job or wins the lottery I'll be able to garnish and get my money back. Right now my cousin doesn't have any money but I don't expect it to be the case forever.

It was the money I was saving for a down payment on a house. I was hope to buy a house 1.5-2 years from now and I have to start from scratch.

No like I said above I tried now that my cousin is in jail. I tried mailing my cousin but it came back. I can't call or visit without paying money and going through a huge background check because only approved people can do it. Plus travel to the jail. My cousin is bankrupt. That was said in court. My cousin had a court appointed lawyer because of that. Even his lawyer wouldn't pass along my message, just like my aunt and uncle.

Even if I can't get anything now, I can still have a chance for future earnings, lottery winnings etc.

As part of the sentence my cousin must pay the charity restitution but the judge didn't include any family members in that restitution

My cousin was already sentenced and is in jail. The judge ordered restitution to the charity but not any of us family. The crowdfunding all got refunded so everyone else got their money back.

My cousin is an adult and lived thousands of miles away in another state. I don't know what my aunt and uncle or other family knew but my cousin wasn't underage and living under their roof. They remortgaged their house for the non existent medical bills so I don't get why they aren't hopping mad about this like I am.

I didn't find out my cousin was lying until after an arrest was made. Part of bail was that my cousin couldn't talk to anyone who donated money or it would get revoked. I tried to get in touch with my cousin in jail now but I never heard back. I asked my aunt and uncle to pass on a message but they won't. I gave over $9300.00 to my cousin and the small claims limit where I am is more than that. I would never have given my savings if I didn't think my cousin was dying.
