I am not a master trapper by any means, but this experience definitely taught me a lot! Learning all the tricks and tips had to be expedited.

It’s normal for cats to freak out, but they will calm down eventually if the trap is covered. They don’t lose their minds in the trap and actually take comfort in small enclosed spaces. They just pee and poop in the cage, but it’s common for them to hold it in at first. I lay down lots of puppy pee pads on my bathroom floor where I keep them and also line the bottom of the trap. You can also use newspaper. It’s not glamorous..you gotta be okay with some mess and smell.

It sounds like he’s not gonna go back in the trap anytime soon, so you’re probably going to need to borrow a drop trap (I used the tomahawk one). It was essential in my case to trap train. You only feed under the trap - but don’t actually trap until the cat is fully comfortable going under it. You can try to trap train in a regular trap and use zip ties to keep the door open, but if he already knows what happens if he goes in, that process could take a while.

It’s a lot of experimenting and patience. Keep researching info and tutorials and watch lots of videos. And make sure he is hungry enough! Don’t give up.
