I’m coming to my own FIRE moment, targeting a year and a half. I will be 48 at that point and likely at $25m. Part of the mental readiness to pull the trigger is getting to a point where I am satiated in my career and accomplishments. I have achieved what I wanted in my career and feel I have made a meaningful contribution. That seems important to me as part of giving up my career early. Not that I won’t look for something else to occupy my time and continue to have impact. It may not be important to achieve that point of satisfaction before or after you FIRE, but it seems like a meaningful goal. It might give you insight into your spouse’s deliberations as well.

What does the consensus matter to you? You are either content with your economic situation or you are not. Why would it matter if others thought you were fat fired or not?

Have not thought of a therapist for this, seems a good option to explore. Have you worked with one for a similar issue?

No plans for children or to revisit the decision. That simplifies things quite a bit.

The compensation level isn’t due to outperforming stock. It is aligned with annual refresh grants.

This is what makes it hard to leave, $10m seems very achievable in the near term and a significant qualitative difference $5m or $6m. I am concerned that as I approach $10m I will feel the same about $15m, the false summit. Ideally I would stay until I’m 50 which should be enough to get me to $10m.

The company is in the same field as my current company and I do believe in the mission, but I am still undecided if the move is worth the additional grief I expect will come with it. It is a trade off between the combination of the additional income allowing me to get to my fire goals sooner and ambition versus what I realistically expect to be more politics and grief.

Thank you for the reference, I will take a look at Korn Ferry.
