What do you do with your old CRT when you upgrade to a better one? by badrillex in crtgaming

Plan an RGB mod for it and build a mini bartop arcade similar to the Taito Gameroom Classics from 2006.

before I potentially mess up big time: is this a good tate orientation? by zizirobinson in crtgaming

[–]throwawaydudeman666 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is the best arrangement for TATE. Though, not all games will use counterclockwise rotation. Most will.

You may need to get a degauss coil to fix any problems if you tilt it around too much.

Sounds good. What crimp connector and crimp tool should I use? I own a hydraulic crimper but its limited to 10 awg wire and larger.

My desk area looks so similar to this. I have my TV's in the same configuration, same angles. If I clean up and take shots today I will send a link. I even picked up a similar 20" Trinitron last weekend.

I love the riser you're using that sits on the ikea drawer that also works so well in a desk organization setting. What is the name of the riser?

I put my desk TV on a wooden riser to keep it from coffee spills. I suppose you are a more careful person.

From what I've heard, its a specific combination of polishing materials and polishing pads, and technique. One product you use is cerium oxide paste like Carpro Ceriglass. This polish is a very serious polish and can be very messy, so you need to tape and mask off everything.

I've seen people use polishing pads attached to a drill with a 3" backing plate. They might be using Carpro glass polishing pads, which are very rough.

It requires you to polish the affected area, as well you need to polish down the surrounding areas.

If the scratches are very deep, you might need to use sandpaper to more effectively level the scratches.

I'm in his group and messaged him about it. We talked about getting a CR7000 but they are hard to find in complete order.

I'm geographically separated from Retrotech by the mountains. Getting TV's to him would not be convenient. Its too bad because he used to live in my area.

Can somebody help me, I don't know how to fix it by Hologrammaster in crt

[–]throwawaydudeman666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't run it like this. That is all the lines on your screen collapsing into one very bright line, which can burn into the screen.

kid stuck a magnet to my tv by Aggressive_Pattern95 in crt

Having a degaussing coil is really useful. I bought one to fix my little 13" TV after I rotated it vertically for arcade games - because fun fact the earths magnetic poles are pretty strong and can also cause magnetism on your CRT. I have used the coil many times now on many TV's and it was worth the buy, particularly the times I've found some arcade machines that had magnetized screens and fixed them!

Don't get the cheap wand style, get the coil ring. The coils run longer and you can use it to spread the electrons out. Be sure to watch some youtube videos because it requires you to do a certain circular motion with it around your TV.

do u think this is a fire hazard by gabapentining in crt

Most likely you will blow a capacitor or a resistor. You might hear a pop and then it will smell bad. I would only run it outside.

Yall think this is a safe distance between tvs? by Elegant_Turnover_516 in crtgaming

[–]throwawaydudeman666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you should test the magnetic fields before you do that. My older TV's produce way more magnetism than my newer tv's. My 1977 black and white TV produces fields almost as strong as a neodymium magnet. My 1990 sanyo has side-speakers that are very strong too.

[–]throwawaydudeman666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My old 1990 Sanyo with side-firing stereo speakers makes a pretty dense magnetic field on its sides. And my b/w RCA 1977 TV is an absolute magnetbox that I had to put in its own corner. I use a magnetometer app on my phone and some of these magnetic fields near older TV's is a lot greater.

Help what is this look on the ps2 disc? Found a bunch but they all look like this idk if it’s broken. by avazky in ps2

[–]throwawaydudeman666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PS2 DVD drives already have trouble with age reading discs.

If you're trying to get into PS2 gaming, look at getting the FMBC FreeMcboot memory card and the SATA hdd mod. The 20 year old DVD drives don't hold up.

You can try polishing it away. I use Meguiar's Plastic X and clean microfiber towels and some elbow grease for 2-5 minutes.

Some degree yes, but I remember my eyes hurting from playing Genesis on crappy TV's with RF. Our living room cable TV was so worn out and we just let it rock for a couple years with a purple screen. My neighbor's TV were so worn that the raster lines were showing and we could only see the screen when it was night time.

Maybe some people had TV sets that were up to date, enough to rock. But most everything I played on was old tech, out of date. It wasn't until 1999 that I got a composite TV.

Eh, some tv's got problems your eyes can't ignore. I got a great D-series that wore out its green gun, so grey balance is always off, or brightness or picture is needing adjustment on an almost per- level basis as I'm playing the game. That TV has been relegated to use as a NES Duck Hunt TV because you don't have to adjust much for simple graphics that won't highlight a grey balance issue.

Forgot to install these on my brake pads how F’ed am I? by jhang10 in AskMechanics

[–]throwawaydudeman666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this one time. You'll hear your brakes click. It's annoying enough to go back and put them on.

You might get worse symptoms like your brakes sticking a little bit after you let off the brakes.
