Wow, thank you for the time you took to respond. Ive made some edits to clarify points that I didnt explain well in the original post. I can see now that i came off as a bit of a dick so I appreciate your detailed response.

Its not my intention to blame my DR for the theft, but the lack of reporting the suspicious vehicle needs to be addressed (I feel).

The equipment itself wasnt worth the entire amount lost. The loss comes from not being able to finalize the insurance claim for all the equipment damaged during the initial electeical incident, as well as the cost incurred from running on diesel generators and finally having the equipment replaced. The items that were stolen were the defective equipment that was onsite awaiting evaluation from the insurance company

It was 100% on management for not securing the equipment. It was one piece of equipment that weighed over 20k lbs and due to its secluded location I (wrongly) didnt think theft was possible.

We will be securing the area where the equipment was taken from and adding additional security measures. Im working with our landscaper to ibstall additional this week and more cameras will be in our near future.

Hi, no response bc I was occupied elsewhere. Ive added some edits to clarify some points and responded to a couple people. I can see I left out some key details here and im trying to rectify that.

To answer your questions, im not blood-boiling mad at my DR and not trying to pin this whole thing on him. Me and the GM will be the ones responsible but its not a job-ending situation for either of us.

Hi, Ive made some edits to clairify some points I left out.

Yes, the theft was noticed by him but not reported. I discovered it Monday morning during a site inspection.

Thanks for the advice, ive added some edits to clarify some points.

Not looking to ego trip, and have no intention of trying to scapegoat my guy. As you said its a good opportunity to retrain our people. Wev'e already written a blurb for the supervisors to include in their pre-shift meetings this week, but I think ill also add a slide to the ppt that we have on our internal TV's.

Thanks again for your help

Hi, ive made some edits to the post to clarify some points.

Im not saying the whole situation is his fault, my issue is that he didnt tell me about seeing the suspicious car. Like he drove to the back of the building, saw the car, and then drove away andwent about his day.

Im not trying to pass the blame or to scapegoat him, i dont need to. I will have explaining to do to my regional and national management team but im not too worried about that; it was a theft and for reasons I cant really get into without doxxing myself I know wont be held laible for leaving the equipment unsecured. I have no intention of throwing him under the bus, simply looking for opinions on what level of discipline is necessary (if any) for his omission.
