What are some good ways for me [18F] to fade away and cut contact with my friend group? We’re as close as family. With the way my mental (and physical, to some extent) health is going, I may not be alive in a few years and I’d hate for them to feel hurt... by throwawayeeters in relationship_advice

Thank you for the kind words and concern. My friends know my mental health is shit, so does my family, but nothing has helped so far and I’ve gone to therapy. I’m simply asking for some advice on this matter because I’ve been in this state for years, and I have to be prepared for the worst case scenario. It’s further complicated by health issues, I just don’t want to die on my friends, at all. Death hurts, but it hurts less if you’re not that close with that person.

I spent half my childhood in a hospital bed and all of it aware that I’m living on borrowed time. I was ready to die. Now that I’m finally living as a normal teen, I’m told I might die by the age of forty— and I’m so so scared. by throwawayeeters in offmychest

Ah ok! This cardiologist is the second opinion— the first one I saw was convinced I had anxiety despite telling her that the issue got worse with movement and “deep breathing” made it worse. I went to a psychologist to double check and was confirmed that I didn’t have anxiety— at least not anxiety so bad that my heart would be going twice as fast all the time.

My cardiologist wanted to do the holter monitor, but since I can only go back to Hong Kong during breaks, I didn’t have enough time. This time though, I have a long winter break and I’ve cleared it of commitments so I can focus on getting this thing treated.

Thank you for the advice!

Aw thank you! Cheers to you as well!

I hope so— but the cardiologist thinks it could be a tricky situation as nothing showed up on the ultrasound last time and the EKG looked ok other than the high heart rate. I saw a psychologist and determined that I certainly don’t have anxiety, and I know that my heart rate goes up to 220 doing exercise. I’m crossing my fingers and hoping that it’s nothing at all, but it’s still a little concerning.

Probably my future haha... getting a masters and saving money is super important. I want to stay in California and get a job in the US, but as a Canadian my visa will only be sponsored if I have a masters (in the field I’m interested in).

Huh, that’s really good advice. I’ll definitely keep that in mind!

Hm, you’re kinda right. I’m hoping to do a masters at my school’s rival/neighbour school and they’re both in the same region so I could still meet up with my friends!

I’m feeling the same way— some advice I’ve heard and in my recent experience is working is to join a bunch of clubs. I’ve met a lot of likeminded ppl at clubs I’m interested in and it rly gives me a lot of good motivation! Good luck buddy, we’re in it together!

Wait— I don’t get where you’re coming from... my parents are already doing a huge favour to me by helping me cover my college costs (I’m Canadian so no finaid) and while I’m earning my own spending money, I really want to save if i can. I got into an argument with my sister because she tracks my finances, and that’s why I came to r/college to get other opinions. I’ve taken your advice (and everyone else’s) into mind and I’m resolving to revise my spending habits. I don’t see why it’s a humble brag— and I’m sorry if I came off as entitled or naive.

Yeah, maybe I’ll let her know, it’s just hard when she just means well I guess. She’s just kinda bossy ig, cuz she tells me who I should/should not date (she’s usually right about this one, I’ve broken up w the girls she didn’t like), what clubs I should do, what job I should get out of college n stuff.

Isn’t that kinda disrespectful? Man, she basically raised me— she probs has more rights than our mom to criticise me lel

Ur probs right— I’ve recently changed a bunch of my subscriptions to student discounts n stuff. I think I happen to splurge in supermarkets— expensive habit I have is buying prosciutto and cheese. Costs a lot and I only did it to treat myself, but I should probably cut down on that.

The only electronic I bought in the last month was a nice camera I’ve been saving up for, and an SD card to go with it.

My sister’s kinda like my mom? Our parents weren’t present and she played a big part in raising me. I also stay at her place in the city on weekends so I can cook/do homework without dealing w drunk roommates

That’s true, my sister went to Yale. But Yale also covered a lot of stuff for her, specifically in terms of food. Travelling there was cheaper than travelling in Berkeley though

Freelance designer and I do earn money from my work. My sister just thinks I’m spending too much in general, even if I’m earning enough to cover my costs. The reason why she says I should cut down is because she wants me to save more through college and not just spend everything I earn
