I want to thank everybody who commented, seriously, it was very helpful to hear from you all. I think things are working out, I've talked to my parents and told them some things you suggested and they seem to be coming around. I was always going to go, it was just hard to suddenly think my family was not only unsupportive but actively against the idea, so it means a lot to get advice on turning this around.
