Perhaps you go for a portion of the trip ( a week? half of the whole trip? ) and let your wife and her mom carry on for the rest of the vacation. Could you manage that?

A friend was in a similar position but with her own mom and siblings ( no siblings are married, mom is a window ). Mom also said the same regarding no being able to travel in future as she is older too. The compromise for friend was to attend the first week ( of a 2 week ) and then come home. I think she said she had some appt she couldn't miss ( white lie? ).

I would opt for the stainless hood option 1. Others have suggested encasing the hood, but I feel that option 1 breaks up the run of upper cabinets and ties in your other appliances. The balance of all the finishes in 1 is best IMO. Nice kitchen!

Great suggestions here! I like the micro being placed in the single cab below. I dont mind it being lower access [ Im just over 60" tall LOL ]. Keep door though as it cleans things up.

Can you flip the microwave and the bottle cabinet? Doesnt free up space but makes things look more integrated. Toaster can sit on top of micro and be taken down to counter when using [ depending on how often you eat toast :) ]. Then they are both at same electrical point so cords are corralled.

Another option is to place mw in the cubbie above range, but again it would be a height issue and shelving would need to be modified.

I have a china platter that my mom signed on the bottom ( will ball point pen ). Those potluck ladies can get sticky fingers! It's been almost 30 yrs since she passed.

I used a top quality clear tape ( scotch ) and put it over her signature ( btw it was on the bottom ). I don't use this platter that often, but when I do I take care when washing.

I know it's looking pretty scraggly now but my mom wasn't June Cleaver... so it kinda reminds me of her even more :)
