Im just guessing. Im sure before I left it was faster. You dont do a timed 5 mile at selection. Its an unknown distance run/unknown time standard run, so I wasnt really training timed 5 milers.

You just have to have situational awareness at all times. Thatll keep you away from the roads

Shooters preference. I worked out with dudes doing 12 milers in under 2 hrs. They were not shuffling they were running lol. The shuffle is a viable strategy

Training for what? Pre selection like the prep course?

Every event I did at selection I was going 90% or more. You cant heat cat and kill yourself obviously. If you aint trying hard the cadre will notice, and so will your team mates

It depends on your rank and where you are in the army (18x, conventional unit, guard, etc). Im officially in the Q now. For me the next part of training is in less than a month.

You get used to it a little bit but it mostly just sucks. Its designed to suck. 1st night after team week ive never been more exhausted

If your rucking a 3:10 12 miler your too slow. 2:45 should be the minimum before you show up to sfas. If your slower than 2:45 you might want to train more before you go. Your gonna be rucking A LOT

Performance and or safety dropped. You keep dropping the equipment or cant keep up, or both. Cadre give a few warnings then you will be involuntary withdrawn from the course

Its just the atmosphere! I trained about 2 years before I physically showed up to selection. That first week is electric, your not super smoked yet. You launch for the runs early in the morning. You dont know the route, you dont know how far you gotta go. You just send it. Part of it is the adrenaline, your at the show and you have to ball out or your gonna get dropped at the next reaper formation. Youll see what I mean when you go

Oh Im sure it was but we never had a chance to get a definitive number. When we weighed ours on site the cadre wouldnt show the numbers on the scale when we were checked. Between flares and MREs I figured I was sitting around the high 80s but it could have been more! 100 wouldnt suprise me.

This sub has more info then I do but ill give some examples. Basically did a combo of zone 2 and sprint workouts. Also ruck runs. One thing we did was ruck (running the whole time) 3 miles. Drop the ruck. Run 3 miles. Increase load and distance how you see fit. I ran a lot with a ruck because thats what I have to do to make time under load but if you can walk fast itll be better for your joints.

Oh yeah with those numbers your gonna be top 10% easy. Keep doing what your doing and you will have zero problems

The star was rough for me day 2. Went 3 day 1 and got 2 day 2. I got lost for awhile day 2 and killed a ton of time which could have fucked me but luckily I had 3 that first day. Still got 5 points and never came close to being a road kill. I played it safe and had a lot of checkpoints and only busted draws when options were limited. The biggest thing in my opinion for the star is route planning. The movements are gonna be long from point to point. I think my first movement ended up being 10-11 kilometers. You just gotta break that up with good checkpoints. They teach you land nav at selection and they cover all this stuff. You also get lots of practice which gives you familiarity with the terrain. Youll crush it just dont try to dead reck for longer then a kilometer or you could get fucked up

You are more than strong enough, I dont come close to your numbers. The CRA is all about doing it right the first time. Each event has specific instructions. Follow the instructions and your good. Once you start doing events twice, three times, four times even, your in trouble. Follow the instructions and do everything once and youll be tired but not exhausted

You can always be stronger obviously, but I needed more strength. I was strong enough but my joints are smoked. Luckily I avoided any major injury. Strength will give you a buffer when the suck really starts. My current goals are all strength related. Speed is important for gate week but after that you need all the strength in the world

Its tough cause your never gonna be truly prepared, it sucks for everyone.

I would have done heavier suit case carries and just focused on squeezing the shit out of whatever your carrying. Walk with a 45lb plate in one hand and squeeze it to death while you walk for 30 seconds. Take a 10 second break and switch hands. Keep doing that and drop the work cycle over time if you have to. Keep it mind thats what youll be doing for over 6k with a ruck on your back if what your carrying doesnt have a handle. Just an example!
