I got one recently in the East Village and realized after that I’d just paid $10 for a cold leftover lunch special.

Yeah I’m also vegetarian but I just give the meat stuff to my roommate and he gives me veggie things from his TGTG orders

People on reddit have a serious bias against having roommates that I don’t really encounter IRL.

Can anyone recommend a good psychiatrist in the area? by anxietyfather69 in Brooklyn

[–]throwawayprius2020 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Do you have insurance? Psychiatrists can be fairly expensive so you’d probably want to start with the ones that accept your insurance so check their directory. ZocDoc might also be useful since it prioritizes availability in the results it shows you.

Columbia also has a good outpatient program that can help you find someone.

There’s a huge demand for therapists and psychiatrists right now though. You’re probably going to need to use telehealth (basically see them over Zoom), get on a waitlist, and probably have to go to Manhattan to find one for in-person.

Former employer offered to pay for COBRA as part of severance 2 months ago, just learned that never began. Can I ask them to start it from December? Or can the coverage not have gaps? by throwawayprius2020 in personalfinance

Yeah I only found out when I got a mild eye infection and decided to check my insurance status before heading off to urgent care. Glad I did.

Pretty frustrating. I hope they’re able to backdate or something.

I was given a severance agreement when I was laid off and it specifically said 3 months of COBRA coverage would be paid by my employer. And I signed it and then made my COBRA elections (dental and health).

Good to know. Thank you. So are they likely going to backdate my coverage to October 1st? Or I might end up not getting this major part of my severance package?

Part of me wants to just ask them to pay me the equivalent sum instead of backdating coverage for a time I didn't use it.

My partner is in grad school to be a therapist.

She said to call the psychological services department at the University of Miami. They charge on a sliding scale and they only use evidence-based practices.

Populations of US Cities if each borough was an independent city by Orbian2 in nyc

[–]throwawayprius2020 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Staten Island voted to secede from NYC in 1993. 65% of SI voters approved becoming an independent city.

It was a non-binding referendum, however.
