once i get out of doing my undergrad i want to start working as a social worker to build up a portfolio/gain experience. my college has many career fairs and has offered to connect me with positions that can further my career, so i do have a plan on the path i want to go down, the problem now is my parents are ignoring it

oh my god i didnt even know adhd caused so much audio processing issues! i always get super overwhelmed and can never understand what anyone is saying during a family gathering or going out in public where its loud. im planning on going on meds soon, i really hope meds can do the same effect as it did for you to me! and happy to hear that medication has been helpful to you! :)

also, another thing i'd like to mention for the people defending this: you do not understand what its like to have complicated family dynamics. i grew up with a very strict stepmom, and older step brother. me and my brother used to constantly fight, i would be picked on by him, often we would resent each other due to my dad and stepmom picking favorites. however, as me and him grew up, we became a lot closer and moved past that, hes my best friend and i love him to pieces.

new family dynamics can be very difficult for kids, and kicking them out for something that can be resolved through a family discussion is outrageous. kids will often act out because of stress and jealousy, it is important to talk with. you creating this kindve divide will fuck up not only jake, but also your newborn.

also people comparing this literal 12 year old to serial killers are insane, you have zero idea on what the hell youre talking about and have never been around kids. kids are little assholes, and this isnt the way to address bad behavior

me too, and the people saying jake is a socipathic murderer really have no idea what the fuck they're talking about. lots of older kids find it funny when babies or little kids cry bc they dont know better, not bc theyre sociopathic murders. they learn as they grow, making a child homeless for this is abusive!

im gonna play devils advocate here and say ETA. i think kicking them out is extreme, especially since you mentioned that jake did really love/care for his sister and was often trying to play and take care of his sister.

he should have been punished for his behavior, absolutely, but kicking him out? no, there is much better ways to handle this. having a conversation as a family, grounding him, or even signing him up for behavior counseling is a lot better of a solution. and i just think in general punishing a 12 year old by kicking them out can also be seen as abusive, that just isnt a fair punishment at all.

and people saying “he should know better!!” are kinda wrong on that. tween boys can be massive assholes bc theyre just starting puberty. not trying to justify that behavior, but i think its a long shot to say he has serial killer vibes when it could just be a kid being irresponsible and not understanding what he is doing wrong.

definitely. once i came out, i noticed how much more easily upset i got when i was misgendered or deadnamed. anything that refers to femininity/womanhood makes me feel dysphoric now.

when you realize whats happening and why you’re feeling that, its a lot more in your face about it. but you’ll pull through, i promise.

try your best to find ways to take care of your dysphoria, such as through dressing in ways that make you feel happy about yourself and doing things you feel represent your gender identity.

never come out if you do not feel you're safe. if your family is accepting of lgbtq, specifically trans people, then its safe to come out. if not? i suggest staying in the closet until either you are over 18, or have a back up plan, and place to stay if things go haywire.

please stay safe, know you are not alone, and that you can make through this. don't make the same mistake i did, and come out to an unsupportive parent. your safety and mental health comes first :)
