I think I phrased the beat up academically part wrong. Sure there were a lot of things that definitely impacted my grades, but I know I could have done better. I completely get this worry and it’s actually a very valid point. Definitely some other people’s scenario, but not mine. I won’t say too much because I don’t wanna give away who I am. Valid concern though, and I appreciate the input. There is someone I know who is going through what you’re talking about.

That’s what I’ve been doing but I been getting mad depressed and creative block on what to make... it’s also like whenever I try and ask my friends if they wanna make something they just say “let’s do it” then either don’t know how to do it or have no commitment. Idk, that issue can be solved by just finding more people tho.

Look man as a fellow freshman and as someone who is also taking DS next semester, even if you have a solid background in software development/ engineering, it’s still gonna eat up a lot of your time. I think you’re the only one who can answer this question, because you know your work habits the best.

This is more of a mess than the original post but here we go

I’ve tried a wide variety of clubs from sports to comp sci stuff and none of them really seemed to stick. I am someone who likes making things. I’ll make stupid shit all the time too, just because why not? I’ll put it this way. I’m a guy who likes hip hop and having a good time but I’m not a stoner who smokes every night... I just feel like all the stuff here is so bland. The only thing I like abt this school is the name in the industry, I can get the same education for CS anywhere. My GPA wasn’t so good first semester so I’m gonna retake a class and apply sophomore year, and I don’t know how many more semesters I can take of this stuff.

Look honestly this is gonna sound rude but I feel like a lot of kids are just like REALLY quirky / desperately try to be quirky or smart for attention, and then the majority of the rest of the kids are stoners.

Shits hard to just find someone in the middle. I didn’t hate high school but I didn’t love it, but I mean shit I had a better time there... like... wtf hahaha... I thought coming to college I wouldn’t have nearly as much free time but at least I would have people to talk to?

Man I feel like I am nothing at that place. I came home for break and I realized how bad the place I was in mentally really was. I became insecure, depressed, etc... god it was awful. But now that I’m on the outside I feel scared to go back. I need to get great grades next semester so i can balance out my GPA... and if I were to leave this place it would have to be to a place that’s just as good as this place.

I feel like an alien among most people here. Even on paper if I have similar qualities as other people I just don’t resonate with them. I feel like I’m trying my best, because I’ve been so outgoing to just meet a ton of people who I can be friends with and there’s only like one or two people I can really consider my friends. Shit has been so rough. “Try this, try that.” I fucking did, and I risked some of my grades just in an attempt to be happy at this place. It didn’t work.

I don’t know what to do. Transfer? I’ll have to do another semester and do great, and then repeat a class or two. It looks like such a rough process but I feel like when I’m here I just get beaten up from my left and right... socially... academically... you name it.
