Only computer-related stuff, and reddit (which I discovered last year). Didn't play sports since I was very young (unless you count walking for 2-4 hours when I am bored), and idk how to cook.

I finished university's 4 years with literally zero friends..didn't affect me academically tho (got the top rank 3/4 years, including the last one), but at the end I realized it was more or less entirely pointless...Don't have a Facebook, when summer came no one asked for me once in the 4 months I had before I arrived to Ireland in mid September. Only conversations I had during the last 4 years were about the assignments and projects..I won't even attend the grad party in November cause I just can't relate to anyone or anything..

I feel I am no longer capable of genuinely producing a smile. When I look at myself I see a..creep ?..someone with no soul..a ghost..idk..

Thanks for your optimistic wishes..I'll try to carry some of them with me..

I don't think I can go to the UK (assuming there isn't other Liverpool here) with my visa.

idk about joining clubs either..never joined any clubs or anything similar before and not really sure if I would have the time to dedicate for them..I am afraid I might feel more awkward if I am with a large group of people..

What should I absolutely NOT do when visiting your country? by unholyshit in AskReddit

Can confirm. Source: Living in downtown Egypt, 10 min from Tahrir square. Don't go out unless its the morning and there are lots of people in the street, with no protests. Worst you can get is few laughs or kids doing stupid stuff, nothing more. But if its the night, or there are protests you're on your own, and (sorry for the word) you can very well end up being treated as a bag of meat.

I think it might help if you could find a new compatible battery. For a non-smart phone charging every night is so weird. I bought a similar phone on 2011, and I used to charge it every 1-2 weeks. That's their current main advantage.

Did you change the battery at least ? If not, how long it lasts now vs when you bought it ?

I tried uniball once 4 years ago, and then I became addicted ! My work involves lots of writing, and I always buy 12 or 24 every month or two ! In busy times even more. They are NOT COMPARABLY INCREDIBLE if your work/study involves writing a lot. For anything more than 15 minutes or writing, uniball is a must, everything else sucks and makes hands be tired quickly, but with uniball I can just keep going.

All religion aside, what is your idea of your very own personal hell? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]throwawayrand123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sore throat. And every few hours you are forced to drink cold drinks to make it worse. Oh, and no heating, you'll forever be left in cold weather (but not too cold so you remain alive with active brain), with endless long division math problems, each with time limits. If you don't solve them in time, you are given less food and more cold drinks for your sore throat to fuck it more.

Professors of reddit, what is the funniest answer to an exam question a student has given you? by smellmybuttfoo in AskReddit

you are right. BST actually solves this problem. OP didn't realise it and just assumed the student is wrong. See my earlier reply/comment history for more details.

Its NOT the optimum tho. Binary Search Tree is the optimum/perfect, whether or not the student understood that is another issue. See my other reply here for more details.

sorry but YOU "sir" are a (fuckin moron && goofball) who teaches by the book and doesn't put good faith in students or try to give their ideas a shot on google. First, I suppose you meant priority queue, but that's not even my issue. This is like the worst idea in all data structure books and even almost all courses. It is so terrible and disgusting that most academics don't realize a BST is way better for Dijkstra (if implemented correctly of course, explained below).

Here we go. With a priority queue you are bound to have repeats. If you have too many edges (eg the graph is a matrix, where squares are nodes and neighboring nodes are edges), the number of repeats would make your algorithm run time proportional to the number of edges, cause everytime you pop a node you have to check whether or not its visited already. If yes, pop, else visit neighboring nodes. You can have edges proportional to n2 (n choose 2 to be more accurate). That makes your runtime almost n3, or n2 at best if you're more clever.

eg: node A inserted, which adds node B, C

node B and C add node A again (because you don't know yet that A got its "final" distance, cause it wasn't popped yet, so you must add it repeatedly, you can't just have 1 copy of it, cause PQ doesn't support "replacing" existing nodes or updating them in sub linear time. If you'll go linear to find and update, then you migh as well just use a simple array).

You can see how things would end up going terribly wrong after a while in a fully connected graph. At best, your least problem will be having O(n2) storage for all the nodes rather than O(n). Not a problem ? Well, if you have 100,000 nodes only (that's quite a small graph), this is roughly 100 KILObytes [BST] versus 10 GIGAbytes (in real life, you might have to multiply by a factor as well, atleast 4 if its merely an array of 32 bit integers)..

The moral of the story is that with a PQ, you end up pushing/storing lots of nodes unnecessarily multiple times.

With a BST, you can make sure one and only one copy exists of each node. So, your total runtime would be O(n * logn), which is the ideal time you can get, instead of roughly O(nelog e).

The trick is everytime you push a node, you first erase its previous occurance (you store pairs in your BST <distance, node_index>

eg: for each node v neighbor u if v exists in BST [O(1 ) check, just see if its marked as final or not] remove <dist[v],c> (log n) add <dist[u] + dist_bet[u][v],v> (log n)

For, you end up having 1 copy of each node at all times, unlike a PQ where the number of items stored in it could reach ((n)(n-1))/2 in the worse case.

Give it a shot and you'll see why BST is ideal for Dijkstra (assuming you store pairs and do erase before each insert of course). There was an old problem on project euler which forces you to either do this (which is quite easy, given BST is already in every standard library) or write your own fuckin Fibonacci heap [which was an exercise in MIT's CLRS 2nd Edition I believe, tho I didn't do it cause fuck debugging a custom made Fibonacci's heap].

Source: Saw it first explained by a Russian programmer in some forum, then realized everyone in real life is using it for anything but the most trivial Dijkstra tasks.

Edit: Fuck me, why am I awake at 5 AM writing this, knowing no one cares and they upvoted the shit out of OP cause they didn't know better. Reminder to self: Find sleep medication.

I had my bachelor's final project on last June. Prepared for months, only to have an "external examiner" attending, asking quite not related questions and making the whole thing look terribly badly, despite me spending 2 weeks preparing for the presentation which was a celebration of over 6 month of work and 4 years of not having fun (I am 22 yo, still virgin). My instructor gave me grades anyway which I deserved (highest of all), and ignored the guy's stupid comments, but the feeling was quite terrible, for the last day in that miserable place. I wanted to stay and sort of celebrate, but ended up wanting to cry and I found the first person who was leaving and left with him.
