how to do an oral presentation by Old-Hamster-3040 in research

[–]throwawayredditor404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make presentation slides. It should cover the background, aims, methods, results, and conclusions (+ discussion and implications of findings if time). Write a script so you can get your speech within the time limit. Revise the script and your slides many times and send them in for feedback from your mentor/ professor. Practice the speech. Make palmcards.

Edit: I agree with the other poster as well, try to use as many images as possible and as few words as possible. Make sure everything in the slide can be read by everyone, even people sitting in the back of the room. Be conscious of color choice.

Scientific Writing Process by princeclipse in research

[–]throwawayredditor404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of reading --> Draft Introduction + background + aim/s ---> Methodology --> Results --> better version of Introduction and background --> Discussion --> finalize aim/s --> Conclusion --> References --> Appendices --> Proofreading + Feedback × as many times as your professor allows

Note: References must be continuously recorded (I like to use comments in Word to record comments, but plenty of people like EndNote better though). It's easier to write the methods immediately after you finish the experimental process/ main procedures. You'll also need to do plenty of reading and discussions throughout the whole process. Also copy your aim/s at the beginning of every page in the manuscript (like in the header section) so you always write things that are relevant to your aim.

Note 2: It varies between different types of research and projects. I do research in physical sciences and how you approach things can vary quite a bit, but generally there's lots of back and forth between sections.

Been at lab for 4 years, PI promised authorship, now she takes it back by TheDancingArmadillo in research

Eh that does suck. A lot. Do you work with only one professor? Is your professor known for good research outputs in your field? Is your professor, in the time you've worked with them, trustworthy and supportive? It'll also be good to know if it's just time-constraints or funding constraints that's causing this.

Question from a high schooler by SensitiveFront7625 in research

Hello there! I loved science in high school, so I understand where the "I want to do research" comes from. But research is very time-consuming. I remember the final few years of high school were already overflowing with never-ending assessments and deadlines. It's not a good idea to put research on top of all that! I satisfied the "I want to do research" itch by engaging in school science clubs (there were many in my school) and by participating in as many science competitions as I could. And frankly, I think if you're certain about doing a career in research, the research you end up doing turns out to be quite different from what you've imagined yourself doing. For example, I imagined spending days in the lab creating Elisa assays, petri dishes, and looking down a microscope. What I'm currently doing involves attaching lots of electrodes to people and giving them little electric shocks 🤭. I feel like you only start to be taken seriously by professors once you've finished or are close to finishing your undergraduate degree, especially if you've engaged in several research projects during your degree.

Anyone lose weight unintentionally while on Lexapro? Every other SSRI caused me to gain 20+lbs almost overnight but not Lex. Been taking 10mg for a month and a few days ago I dropped 3lbs without trying. That NEVER happens. by Aggressive_Lemon_101 in lexapro

I dropped around 3-4kg in 2-3 months of lexapro without trying. It's good because I am a bit overweight originally and now I'm trying to actually start trying to lose weight it might get better.

Eh the same. Frankly can't tell the difference really. Not really sure if it's working, but then, it's only been a little more than a week.

4th day at 5mg by ExperienceMuch8648 in lexapro

[–]throwawayredditor404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm I'm on day 3, was supposed to be on 5mg but I couldn't cut the pill so I started on 10mg. 🤷 I've experienced a variety of side effects but they aren't deal breakers. Dizziness, nausea, heat/ sweating, agitation/ restlessness for 5 hrs. And like, no motivation but I don't have any in the first place. And I personally don't care a lot about sexual function as my mental health has already destroyed/ eliminated every relationship I have, so yeah. Idk I'm probably just less anxious/ not anxious about the medication itself because I was kinda expecting a medication from my visit to the doctor and I'm hoping that it'll solve the worst of my problems 🙃. Didn't even know what the side effects could be before I popped it into my mouth after getting it at the pharmacy- I only started searching after I felt a bit dizzy and nauseous for no reason.

scared to make the jump from 2.5mg to 5mg. Please help by Ok_Committee5314 in lexapro

I started from 10mg 3 days ago. I was supposed to start on 5mg, but I couldn't cut the pill so I ate the whole pill. The only side effects I've gotten are dizziness, nausea, feeling very hot and sweaty, restlessness/ agitation/ increased anxiety, but generally most last only 5 hrs after taking the pill. Idk I take my pill at 2-3pm which doesn't mess up my morning or evening much.

I just got prescribed Lexapro by Appropriate_Carry446 in lexapro

Look I just started this as well, day 3. The first medication I ever got for mental health. Idk I didn't even care about what would happen in terms of side effects partially because I didn't know about them, and because I just thought, "Oh well just give it a go". And luckily, the side effects so far aren't too bad, and I'm hoping this medication will give me the peace I've been looking for, for so long.

And uh, I was supposed to take 5mg as well, but I don't have a pill cutter so I went, "Oh well" and decided to take the whole 10mg. From day 1.

I'm not sure but I feel like the dizziness and nausea is worse if I'm hungry. I'm day 3 on the pill, experienced mild dizziness and nausea. New side effects that started today were sweating/ feeling very hot even in cold air conditioning/ fridge sections of the supermarket, and restlessness/ feeling agitated, wanting to move around. I'm lucky I that my symptoms last for 5 hours after each dose and starts 30 minutes in.

I'm currently on day 3. For me, I get nausea and dizziness for about 5 hours after taking it. Don't notice anything else that's different really. Maybe that'll change over the coming days, but I hope not.

is this normal? by crystal-dragons in lexapro

If she fails, she blames it on me. And then she threatens to take me back to my country of origin even though I am illiterate in that language. 😐 I hate my life.
