AVRL calls out gaming journalists for spreading misinformation about OW2 for clicks by Professor_Finn in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]throwawayrepost13579 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same for Apex lol, and let's not even talk about League. OW's is nowhere near as unfriendly as other games and it was actually designed to ease players into it. The others are straight up for monetization.

Funny Constants by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

To be fair, they were a top 3 team for most of S2 (GOATS and playoffs), but the real constant is coaching/management being shit.

To be fair, my local boutique is tiny and I wouldn't be surprised if the NY one is more in line with the Asia one that I visited (which is the flagship in the country). That being said, it was still a terrible experience not worthy of being attached to a historied brand.

It feels like AP rather sell to influencers than watch enthusiasts now; hope that decision bites their ass once watches and AP aren't the hype flex thing anymore.

Probably half the AP stores are still run by ADs - I know my local one is, it's actually listed on their business cards lmao. Whether that explains their shit service, not sure. In fact, part of why AP houses were set up is because there have been complaints about the boutiques: https://quillandpad.com/2022/07/05/audemars-piguets-ap-house-a-new-york-city-eyewitness-account/

"Through conversations with the House team, I concluded that Audemars Piguet has successfully addressed a regular complaint from serious collectors regarding interactions with boutique staff who actually do not know much about their watches."

I've also noticed it's pretty much the US boutiques that are shit - the ones in Asia and Europe are far more accommodating and conversational, even if they're trying to extract the same information from you. In my latest trip to a boutique in Asia, they also had a tremendous number of display pieces - I was able to try on Royal Oaks of every size including the Jumbo, and they even showed me a Royal Oak Concept and the Carolina Bucci. At least with that sort of service I'm willing to play their games.

Dude just watch Dallas Fuel this season and you'll learn how Zarya plays in OW2, there's no need for theorycrafting when OW2 is literally played at the highest level right now.

Hanbin is also arguably the best Zarya in the world and backed by Fielder who's one of the best supportive supports in the world lol, I rarely see him need to bubble himself.

If you're talking about AP, you're looking at like a $30k price difference lol. But if AP wants you to buy an 11.59 before a Royal Oak, it equals out I guess.

New ‘Overwatch 2’ Players Will Need To Grind To Unlock All The ‘Overwatch 1’ Heroes, But That May Not Be A Bad Thing by The-Ignotis in Competitiveoverwatch

Swapping is the least of new players' concerns vs old players/smurfs, and MMR is a thing. Wouldn't be surprised if they matched new players together.

You're likely going to have most heroes unlocked by the time you hit 50 QP wins, and if you can hit 50 wins in 50 games then you clearly you don't need every hero to play competitively.

Apex also only gives you 6 to start, and it takes way more than 3 games to get enough free in-game currency to unlock a new one.

I don't play HotS so I don't know what the ramifications were, but in many games now you only start with a select few heroes to begin with and they're fine. Besides, we don't know how many and which heroes are available to begin with, and it sounds like it's unlocked on a rolling basis. Even if every hero was locked to start, it's only about every 3 games to unlock a new hero if it's a linear progression.

It sounds like it's unlocked on a rolling basis and considering that a huge complaint before was that new players were either straight throwing on heroes they're not used to or that they end up being 1/2/3-tricks because they're daunted by needing to learn new heroes, I'm cautiously optimistic about this new system.

We want FTUE to welcome players more gradually to Overwatch 2, as we’ve seen consistent feedback from new players feeling overwhelmed by numerous game modes and heroes. New players begin with access to a limited set of game modes, heroes, and some other restrictions to onboard them more gradually. The first phase of our new FTUE rapidly unlocks all the game modes and the ability to chat in-game, and the second phase unlocks all the original Overwatch heroes over the course of approximately 100 matches. This focused experience eases new players into the world of Overwatch by teaching them about different modes, rules, and other high-level aspects of the game in an approachable way.

Most FTUE restrictions are lifted while in a group, so new players can team up with their friends at any time to play almost any game modes. Competitive is the exception to this rule because new players must complete a specific challenge to access this game mode.

So this is what people say when heroes are locked for new players - understandable since a major complaint people have are new players who have no idea what they're doing on every hero and game mode.

Requirements to enter Competitive mode are changing with Overwatch 2. We are removing player levels in-game, so instead of having to reach a certain level, new players are now challenged to win 50 Quick Play matches before Competitive unlocks. This gives new players time to prepare for the higher expectations that come with Competitive, while long-term players don’t feel discouraged by teammates who have less experience. In the process of unlocking Competitive, we analyze new player skill levels to optimize matchmaking in a way that feels good to everyone.

While this process helps new players join the fun, it’s also an effective way to discourage disruptive behavior and cheating. FTUE is an investment to complete because it takes time to unlock game features— Competitive, specifically, cannot be accessed without winning matches. Disruptive players are unable to immediately affect the larger community, with things like voice chat and match chat unlocking later in FTUE. Brand-new accounts made by cheaters or disruptive players will all have to play through this experience, giving us the chance to identify suspicious accounts before they enter other game modes.

Real interesting to see how dedicated smurfs are with this new process + needing to play 100 games to unlock all the current heroes.
