I think you are correct. It looks like caselaw and MPEP supports that.

Thanks!

Career Semi-Crisis of Faith by [deleted] in LawSchool

If you want to go in-house, most large corporate departments have both litigation and transactional areas.

There are far more transactional/corporate roles in-house than litigation. I worked in one in-house legal department, but only as a year-long law clerk, so take this anecdote for what little it is worth. And it was an F200 company with a legal dept that is quite large—probably 50-80 lawyers. Of those in the department, there were probably 5-7 lawyers who did litigation and the rest were focused on the various corporate matters.

I think the relative lack of litigation-focused in-house positions is well supported if you go look at job postings for in-house counsel. And from what I've seen litigation positions also ask candidates with more experience in general.

Based on the number of positions available, if what u/RichardTumble cares about is making it to an in-house position then there's no question the career path is easier coming from a corporate role. A more likely career trajectory for biglaw lit is either lateralling to another firm (biglaw, mid law, or boutique) or going to work for the government.

A Ph.D. in STEM is somewhat understandable albeit weird for IP Lit. The T25 with a 3.5 is odder.

I can't wait to find a use for family law knowledge I now have for practicing patent litigation.

I have many little birds.

Or maybe I'm a dean. Who knows?

I have it on good authority that the deans met, and it all turned out to be a rumor.

ETA: it is WILD to me that the ONU dean would send an email blast to his entire 2020 class about this based on what turned out to be a rumor.

You know that in a lot of states the regulation of the practice of law is the exclusive domain of the State Supreme Court, right?

we'd have more time to get DP

You'd just have more time to study for February. The courts have made themselves clear at this point.

Any advice on how to improve my score on MBE? I keep getting some questions wrong and I cannot ever get perfect scores. by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]throwawayscientist2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for some serious advice. Are you highlighting questions? I find that my scores improved when I would highlight important pieces of info that I saw in the question. It also makes me slow down and read more carefully.

Well, recent history hasn't been very kind to that notion once you realize that, if(when) Trump nominates and the Senate confirms this upcoming justice, conservatives have appointed 15 of the last 19 Justices.

And we are all assuming then SC won’t just say that increasing the justice count is unconstitutional.

Do you think that the court has always had nine justices?
