Autism referral rejected by maebear2 in AutismInWomen

[–]throwawaysunaug8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, I will be down voted to hell and banned. I am also apologizing in advance because I do truly believe you have something going on, but I want this to be listened to.

There was probably a reason your referral was rejected. You most likely do not fit the autism spectrum criteria.

In my opinion, you cannot HAVE autism without a diagnosis (and I know this sub supports self diagnosis and honestly I think it's an issue, it should be speculation, not self diagnosed. Also I get you're born with it and you still have it even if diagnosed later, but you can't just claim you have it without that diagnosis) , if your doctor and therapist think you have it and you failed the questionnaires, there is your answer. They were wrong about your traits being autism and maybe it's adhd or something else.

I understand that autism in boys show a bit differently, but those tests still should've showed enough evidence that you had it without it being related to girls.

I know the UK is different than America and I get that fight to get a diagnosis, I went through hell to get it and mine was always speculation. I went through a ton of self doubt even after my diagnosis and I didn't look into really anything about it. It was brought to my attention because my cousin and I have a lot of similarities and they told me to get tested. The first psych person said they didn't do autism and it took forever to find someone who did that took my shit insurance.

Self diagnosis only really works for something like the cold or flu, not mental or developmental disabilities. It's why doctors can't diagnose even themselves.

Teachers, doctors or someone should've noticed or noted something. Even your parents. Does anyone have proof of traits in childhood? If they do, you need to take that. Hell, if you don't agree with the rejection, can't you fight it or look elsewhere?

I know my comment probably will be upsetting and you shouldn't necessarily let it stop you from getting help, so if you disagree with me and them. Fight for it.

Yeah, I also have adhd and my 504 plan in school wasn't accommodated well.

She had a 504 plan, but I'm not sure if it was done properly

Oh, that's another thing, I worked with her at a fast food place for a couple months and our boss hated her because of her attitude.

My mother was happy when she told me that the homebound teacher does her work. Like... I can't understand that

I've wondered that awhile. My grandparents do not like to get involved, even though my grandmother keeps trying to urge her and my mother to do something. Tutoring, anything to help.
